Tarte LipSurgence matte lip tint review March 30, 2012

Today I bring you Tarte LipSurgence matte lip tint in “lucky”.  This is a bubblegum pink color.  I was super impressed that this was a full sized item in my birchbox.  I was also impressed to find a taste item in my box. I really do like my tarte cosmetics.  I’m not much on matte lipsticks but I figured I’d give it a try.

So how does it perform? The matte highlights every single imperfection of my lips, but it is not as bad as some of them.  The color lasts for a good 3-4 hours if I don’t eat anything or drink anything.

For what it is, I think its pretty good – but it is not the product for me. I will use it but not super frequently and when I do it will get some sort of gloss over it.

Sample Size 0.08 oz
Full Size 0.08 oz
Full Size Price $24.00
Sample Value $24.00

Will I buy it again? Probably not, I’m not huge on matte stuff

Will I finish the sample? I’ll use it as long as it makes sense.

Today we’ll be looking at Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Splashes! mascara. Since I never use up my mascaras before they need to be discarded I ordered Sephora’s Give Me Some Lash set which gave me 6 mascaras and a primer. I recently opened this one up and have been using it occasionally.

Tarte emphasEYES aqua-gel eyeliner review September 2, 2011

Today I’d like to talk about the Tarte emphasEYES aqua-gel eyeliner. In another post I discussed the cream eyeliner which is my absolute favorite liner in the world.

The aqua-gel eyeliner is basically like any other eye crayon as far as how it looks. It is simple and is retractable with a twist.  This liner, however, goes on with the smoothness I have never before experienced in a pencil/pen/crayon style liner. The bold lines are similar to those of a liquid or cream liner.

In a lot of my posts about makeup I mention what I did to complete the look, and I usually mention my Tarte emphasEYES cream eyeliner.  This is my favorite eyeliner ever.  I’ve always had trouble with pencils and getting both full coverage, a nice shaped line, and avoiding my eyes feeling like they are being abused. On liquid liners I don’t feel like I have much control, and if I want to make the line less sharp I can’t really.

In comes the Tarte emphasEYES cream eyeliner. This is part of their Amazonian clay makeup line. It is a waterproof cream liner. I typically use the pure black one, but I also have the purple, the green, and the bronze.  The colors are rich and true. What you see is what you get.

This formula is is creamy and goes on smoothly. It comes with a liner brush that has a fine tip for lining on one end and a small densely packed brush for smudging on the other end.  I typically will smudge along my lower lashes but keep it nice and crisp on my upper lashes.  I’ve also found the smudge end is perfect for applying powder to my eyebrows.

I’ve heard people complain that it dries out quickly. On that – a major tip is to only open it when you are going to use it and tighten it completely after use.  Most of mine haven’t dried out, but my bronze did start drying out a few weeks ago. I added just a tiny bit of moisturizer to it and after a few days the liner had soaked it in and worked as good as new.  Another tip to avoid the drying is to only take from one place in the jar. As you can see in the upper left corner of my jar there is a lot of disturbed liner.  I take only from that location. I find that I get the most useful product when I insert the liner brush vertically into the jar and twist it around.  During application I can then twist the brush when I run low on product and continue my line.

Tarte Neutral Eyes Volume II July 13, 2011

So, I work in a fairly professional environment, and much to my dismay I need to keep my makeup fairly toned down. My collegues are mostly men, and the women in the department are used to the male dominated workplace (or have given up caring) so they don’t tend to wear any makeup. If I were to wear bright colors I’d stick out like a sore thumb.

As a result, one of my standby for Monday through Thursday is my Tarte Neutral Eyes Volume II.
