Do you ever see movies that have been super hyped by your friends or other people you know and then you see it and think, “meh, it was okay, but definitely not that amazing.” I often wonder if I would be as excited as my friends were if I had seen it before the hype. Today I bring you a product, that much like the movies I just mentioned, has been quite hyped. Did it live up to that hype?

Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss – Sheer Color “POP” review September 15, 2011
Good Morning Everyone!
I was super excited this morning to see that I’d gotten my first 2 comments (or at least those that weren’t filtered by the spam filter) but alas to my dismay the comments were indeed spam, just better than the typical spam. I know you’re reading – tell me what you like so I can do more of that!
On to the review. Smashbox is a hit and miss brand for me. I like their halo perfecting powder (more to come on that someday) and their photo finish primer, but most of their colored cosmetics do nothing for me – to the point that I don’t buy them. There have been a few that are tempting, but when I turn around and see things that scream my name over at Urban Decay, Too Faced, and Lancôme, it’s a little too easy to walk away.
Anyway, earlier this year I purchased the Sephora Favorites Set For Summer just to try to get some more variety and not the same stuff I’d been buying. One of those items was the Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss – Sheer Color in “POP”. This is with me all the time now.
August Birchbox – Smashbox Photo Finish Review August 19, 2011
The final instalment of my August Birch Box reviews is the Smashbox Photo Finish face primer. The claim is that it provides a perfect base for a foundation for a flawless natural look. Smashbox says that it helps minimize the appearance of fine lines as well as be light feeling and long lasting.
A few months ago I took a makeup class. I didn’t have a clue about doing my own makeup and in November I am getting married on a cruise, so I wanted to be able to do my own wedding makeup (which led to my current obsession). Anyway, my instructor, Shanelle, told me that I NEEDED this product for my wedding day. During my personal shopping day with her, she snagged a mini for me in the Sephora aisle of evil (the impulse items that you have to walk through on your way to pay). I hadn’t used it yet because it is quite expensive, and I don’t typically use a primer since I typically use a tinted moisturizer.
Anyway this super mini gave me a perfect reason to try it! Yay. So what’s the verdict?
I like it, the primer does have a light feel – almost like a silicone feel. It goes on really smoothly and lasts. It lets me use half as much of my foundation or moisturizer since those don’t soak into my skin really anymore.
Below are three sets of photos – each has one WITH the primer and one without. Not telling which is which yet – check it out and see if you can tell. (Large photos)
August Birchbox – My Items August 11, 2011
Yesterday night was one of those times when I was just COMPLETELY surprised! Last month my Birchbox arrived at the end of July, around the 20th. Everyone had already discussed each of the differences between the boxes and so I didn’t discuss mine since it was Old News at that point. This month I received mine on the 9th! Seriously the 9th – it wasn’t even expected to ship until the 10th. And No, I’m not complaining – I promise. So I got my BirchBox in last night, and quickly opened it up to show you my swag!
A lot of people expressed their disappointment with last month’s Cynthia Rowley picks – it was my first box, so I didn’t know better. I was saddened that I didn’t get the eyeliner – but still it was a reasonably nice set of items which I’ve tried each at least once. This month I was really hoping for it to be cosmetics heavy since that’s why I signed up for it – past boxes had lots of them.
