C.O. Bigelow – Lavender and Peppermint Shampoo – Review July 4, 2012

Today I bring you the C.O. Bigelow – Lavender and Peppermint Shampoo that I received in my May GlossyBox.  Have you ever seen those “herbal” neck relaxer bean bags? This shampoo smells just like those with the lavendar and peppermint which is somewhat envigorating in the shower.

The shampoo seemed to leave my hair nice and shiny and managible.  I adored the old school look of the container but functionally it needed a squeeze or pump dispenser.

I still prefer my alterna products but this was definitely nice enough to use up.

Would I buy this again? Probably not

Will I finish the sample? I did, it was nice and lasted me most of a month.

Here’s the Breakdown:
Sample Size: 5.2 oz
Full Size: 5.2 oz
Full Size Price: $12.00
Sample Value: $12.00

Traditions by Nick Chavez Yucca Shampooing Cream – Review April 6, 2012

Today I bring you Traditions by Nick Chavez Yucca Shampooing Cream which I received in my March Birchbox. This light blue/green gel is supposed to “boost shine levels and fortifie each follicle, preventing excess hair loss. Wild yam encourages healthy hair growth, while the mildest dose of peppermint oil will leave your scalp tingly and refreshed.”

Well, does it? I’ve used nearly the whole sample at this point with my normal conditioner and my deep conditioner that I use once every 14 days. I don’t know why but I think I’ve lost more hair lately. I don’t see any improvement in my shine levels either.

I don’t think that it was necessarily bad, I just don’t think it was as nice as my alterna shampoo.

Will I buy this again? Probably not, it was just not an upgrade from what I normally use.
Will I finish the sample? Yep, it’s nice enough to finish the sample.

Sample Size 2.0 oz
Full Size 8.5 oz
Full Size Price $20.00
Sample Value $4.70

Indie Lee – The Shampoo Review February 17, 2012

First – I have got to say Thank You to everyone who has checked out my blog in the last 48 hours – I have hit a RECORD number of unique viewers since Wednesday (over 4 times my previous best – so thank you!).

Now, on to our regularly scheduled programming. Today I bring you The Shampoo by Indie Lee. I have heard amazing things about this brand. Indie survived a brain Tumor in 2009 and after doing research learned that a probable cause was all of the chemicals in her daily life. As a result she created a brand based on all natural ingredients that have not even been genetically modified.

I was offered Indie’s The Shampoo as one of my last 9 choices from Beauty Army – so I picked it.  I finally remembered to bring it in the shower with me yesterday so now I can share my opinion.

This is a thick shampoo with a very earthy smell – I would say it sort of smells like grass and tea. It is not unpleasant,  but it is also not sweet.

As an every 2-3 day hair-washer I usually have to shampoo twice to feel like it is actually clean.  I used this one and instantly realized it was not the same as my normal shampoos. If you have ever used WEN then you are familiar with the idea of a cleansing conditioner.  While this product is only a shampoo, it feels the same as WEN does when it is in my hair.  Thinking it was a mistake or that my hair was extra dirty I tried washing it 3 more times. Nope – no lather, just creaminess. I need a good lather when I wash my hair – which is part of why I don’t like WEN for myself.  The scent left in my hair was also not as yummy as I like.

I ended up re-washing my hair with my normal Alterna Bamboo and finishing with my Joico Revitalux.

All in all I did not like this product.  My personal preference is to have strong lather from my shampoo. I also like a less earthy scent – something a little more fruity.  Would I buy this again? No, but I wouldn’t hesitate to try more from Indie Lee – and I do believe that some people would LOVE this shampoo.

Here is the breakdown of the value of this sample.

  • Full Size: 12 oz
  • Full Size Cost: $22.00 ($18.70 on the temporary sale Beauty Army is running)
  • Sample Size: 2 oz
  • Sample Value: $3.66 (based on the normal full price)
