Today I bring you the Cover FX ClearPrep primer that I received in my May Beauty Army Kit.  As I mentioned I only got one of the items I would have chosen had I not let the system choose for me….this was NOT that one, this was actually one of the ones I definitely didn’t want.

Last time I had a Cover FX item I did not find it to perform worth a darn on my skin.  I don’t usually need primer because of the BB cream I use, it really does do everything. I have used the smashbox photofinish primer below my BB cream a few times and it has worked nicely, so I figured I could give the Cover FX one a shot the same way.

Melting.  My face litterally felt like my makeup was melting and running off my face.  I don’t have a photo of it because it just didn’t show up well, but whatever ingredient in it and in my BB cream did NOT play well. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t hot or burning, but the two combined and turned to a super liquidy thing.

Would I buy it again? No, it doesn’t work with my current suite of makeup.

Will I finish the sample? No I already fed it to my pet garbage can.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: 0.24 oz
Full Size: 1.0 oz
Full Size Price:  $39.00
Sample Value: $9.36

Murad – Hybrids Acne Primer – Review May 14, 2012

Today I bring you Murad’s Hybrids Acne Primer that I received in my April Beauty Bar Sample Society box. This medium thickness cream is tinted.  It is intended to help treat acne while providing a shine free base for additional makeup.

What do I think? Not so much. It is not for me at all. Lets start with the obvious, the color – it is very yellow. I am not. The next problem is that once it dries it gets cakey, which is not good for people with fine lines, heck for anyone who has a face that moves it is not good.

As far as if it helps with acne, I really can’t say. I can say that it does live up to the claim that it prevents shine.

Will I buy this again? No, it doesn’t do anything helpful for me

Will I finish the sample? No, it really didn’t work for me.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size:   0.17 oz
Full Size: 1 oz
Full Size Price: $35.00
Sample Value: $5.95

Cover FX Eye Prep Eye Primer from Beauty Army March 18, 2012

One of the samples I received in my March Beauty Army Kit was this Cover FX Eye Prep eye primer. I was pretty excited about this because I have learned over the last year how incredibly important primer is for someone like me with hooded lids and oily lids. Primer makes it so that I can wear shadow all day long without it creasing or moving. LOVE PRIMER.

As a result I was pretty excited about trying this – according to Beauty Army Eye Prep is “Eye primer for concealer, foundation and eye shadow application. Instantly smooths fine lines and creases to enhance color blending.” Woah it is a primer AND it helps with fine lines and wrinkles? Ok I’m in.

This is a fairly thin cream that applies transparently. It feels okay as an eye cream, nothing amazing but certainly not bad. I am used to my primers having a tint to them, but hey, what does it matter when your are putting eyeshadow over it anyway.  I decided to give it a try and compare it one on one to my favorite primer, Urban Decay Original Primer Potion.

So, how did it compare? Click below the break to find out

August Birchbox – Smashbox Photo Finish Review August 19, 2011

The final instalment of my August Birch Box reviews is the Smashbox Photo Finish face primer. The claim is that it provides a perfect base for a foundation for a flawless natural look. Smashbox says that it helps minimize the appearance of fine lines as well as be light feeling and long lasting.

A few months ago I took a makeup class. I didn’t have a clue about doing my own makeup and in November I am getting married on a cruise, so I wanted to be able to do my own wedding makeup (which led to my current obsession).  Anyway, my instructor, Shanelle, told me that I NEEDED this product for my wedding day. During my personal shopping day with her, she snagged a mini for me in the Sephora aisle of evil (the impulse items that you have to walk through on your way to pay).  I hadn’t used it yet because it is quite expensive, and I don’t typically use a primer since I typically use a tinted moisturizer.

Anyway this super mini gave me a perfect reason to try it! Yay.  So what’s the verdict?

I like it, the primer does have a light feel – almost like a silicone feel. It goes on really smoothly and lasts. It lets me use half as much of my foundation or moisturizer since those don’t soak into my skin really anymore.

Below are three sets of photos – each has one WITH the primer and one without. Not telling which is which yet – check it out and see if you can tell. (Large photos)
