Butter London Haul! and swatch of Dosh! September 13, 2011

My two bridesmaids, Jamie and Nicole, threw me my bachelorette  party at Queen Mary Tea House. This tea house has tons of super cute trinkets like tiaras and giant rings and tea books. This time I noticed they started carrying Butter London nail lacquer. SCORE! I’d never seen it in stores before near me – but this place made sense since they promote things that relate to High Tea, and what relates more to High Tea than LONDON? Anyway, I’ve read nothing but rave reviews of these polishes from different bloggers and I decided I must check them out for myself. Funny enough another store that I went to later that day (Fireworks) also carried these.  Anyway, they had loads of colors, almost everything on the website. I kept myself to only 6 though I wanted all of them – but I decided to get ones that shouldn’t be doups for anything I have at home.
I picked up:

  • No More Waity, Katie (purple glitter) (Sold out online)
  • Dosh (green shimmer)
  • Scoundrel (light purple cream)
  • Lady Muck (baby blue Pearl)
  • Cheeky Chops (canary yellow cream)
  • Jaffa (orange/pink cream)

Opi Crackle – Blasted Electric Blue Discussion September 12, 2011

Today we’ll take a quick break from the Lancôme gift with purchase reviews and discuss polish.

Opi Crackle is one of the most common shattering polishes out there and there are tons of opinions on them. I bought a few of the collection before I read many of the opinions which is somewhat unfortunate.  I love my back and red and silver. There is nothing more to desire from these colors. The navy is okay, but like many other bloggers I am having a heck of a time with the Electric Blue and getting it to work right.

Instead of killing lots of perfectly good manicures attempting to get this right I chose to turn to the sample wheel.

• From left to right the electric blue is placed over:

• Seche Vite

• Sally Hansen 4 in 1

• Essie good to go

• Wet and Wild fast dry top coat

• Borghese top coat

• No  top coat heavy application

• No Top Coat medium application

• No top coat light application

• Another attempt at No Top Coat Medium

• Two coats of it over no top coat

• Opi nail color

• Sally Hansen 4 in 1 with a second layer of the crackle

If you expand the picture you will see that the crackle performed best over other Opi products. I suppose that is to be expected, however it works OK over both the Seche Vite and Sally Hansen 4 in 1.

In the future I’ll pick up some OPI top coat and see if that makes a difference and if it does I’ll update this post.  Opi Crackle coat works just as good over OPI top coats as it does over just plain OPI polishes.

In the meantime I plan to only use this particular shatter with my Opi polishes.

Do you have any tips/tricks with your shatter polishes?

Opi Designer Series – Magic August 20, 2011

If you like nail polish you definitely would know of Opi – even if you’d never used it.  I’ve learned lately that I don’t pick or bite my nails when they have polish on them – so in hopes of them growing out nice in time for the cruise I have been expanding my polish collection. My latest snag was one of the Opi Designer Series- Magic. Magic is the newest shade (along with Radiance) to the collection. It is a sapphire/cobalt blue. It has purple and blue micro glitter in it. If you are looking for something to compare it to, the blue on “smart water” bottles is the same color. It goes on quite transparent for the first coat. I was concerned that I missed that it was intended as a finishing coat or something. The second coat helped a lot, and a 3rd coat made it completely opaque.
