Indie Lee the Daily Moisturizing Oil in Vanilla Citrus Review March 29, 2012

Today I bring you Indie Lee the Daily Moisturizing Oil in Vanilla Citrus. This oil is really nice light oil. It smells like lemons and vanilla ice cream.  The oil is nearly instantly absorbed into the skin.

I’ve never used a moisturizing oil before  and I wasn’t sure I was using it right. It seems everyone who sells moisturizing oils expects people to already know how to use a moisturizing oil! Geesh! Finally after 6 pages of googling I found one site that explained how to use it – since oil is a better sealant than moisturizer it is suggested that you use these sorts of oils while the skin is moist (like right after a shower) or after you use a light moisturizer, that way it seals in moisture.

My skin is a true combination – my noise and lower forehead are oily, my cheeks are normal, and  under my lips, around my nostrils, and between my eyebrows are dry!  From what I’ve read these moisturizing oils are really only good for dry/damaged skin.

I’m not sure about other moisturizing oils but this one worked just fine on my skin even though its not primarily dry or damaged. My skin felt good, radiant even.  I don’t know if this is something I’d actually purchase regularly, but for the occasional use it is pretty great.

Will I buy it again? Maybe, but it will not be an addition to my daily regimen.

Will I finish the sample? Absolutely!

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: 0.25 oz
Full Size: 4 oz
Full Size Price:  $28.00
Sample Value: $1.75

3Lab Perfect Cleansing Foam Review March 27, 2012

Today I bring you 3Lab Perfect Cleansing Foam from March’s MyGlam Bag. This cleanser is supposed to perform a number of functions: clean, stimulate circulation, purifies, and moisturizes.

Know what? It actually does all of that.  Increadibly, after using this cleanser my skin felt great, I even felt like I didn’t need to put on moisturizer, but my skin did not feel oily (of course I put on moisturizer anyway).

This cream, when it hits air, instantly seems to create a sort-of-foam.  It stays mostly as a cream, but it ends up getting a porous texture. I think the photo sort of shows that…

It also has these really neat little beads (which you can see in the final photo – they are the little orange dots) in it that are made of vitamin E (according to 3Lab) that sort of POP when you rub them into your face.  I think those are likely my favorite part of the whole experience.

Sample Size 3.4 oz
Full Size 3.4 oz
Full Size Price $50.00
Sample Value $50.00

Would I buy it again? Quite likely – its really neat and it seems to do a good job – but I’m going to use up what I’ve got first!

Will I finish the sample? Absolutely

Babor Anti-Stress Jetlag Cream – Review March 25, 2012

Today I bring you Babor Anti-Stress Jetlag Cream, another item from my March Beauty Army Kit. This item seemed pretty luxurious. This cream is intended to help reinvigorate skin, moisturize, and keep the body’s biorhythms in sync.

This white thick cream has very little scent – which I appreciate in a face cream – and the little bit of scent is quite plesant. While the cream is thick it spreads easily and evenly. A little truly does go a long way.

I find it refreshing compared to my normal moisturizer, but I honestly don’t see any other real benefits from it. It is nice but it is quite expensive.  Here is the breakdown:
Sample Size: 0.5 oz
Full Size: 1.7 oz
Full Size Price:  $72.00
Sample Value: $21.17

Would I buy it again? Probably not – its really expensive and I don’t see double the benefit of what I’m currently using.

Will I finish the sample? Yes – it is quite nice.

BENTA BERRY G-1 Moisturizing Face Cream – Review March 4, 2012

Today I bring you the Benta Berry G-1 Moisturizing Face Cream.  I received this as part of the February Birchbox.  Apparently this has not been available in the US until now – at least according to Birchbox.  Birchbox says “Beyond its intense moisturizing powers, the creamy formula also regulates skin’s oil levels with a botanical brigade. Blueberry and white dead-nettle purify skin, while jasmine, burdock, and mandarin reduce breakouts and redness. The light, refreshing scent was designed with both genders in mind.”

Yes, this moisturizer is scented.  I’m not big with facial moisturizers that are scented.

G-1 is a fairly thick cream that is quickly absorbed into the skin. It was really nice for the first couple minutes but it quickly lost its moisturizing feel.  I felt, shortly after applying it, like I had not applied any moisturizer.  I did not see any help with my oil levels being controlled or any reduced breakouts. Overall I just didn’t feel like it was any better than some of the stuff I’ve purchased from drugstores that aren’t even name brands.

Will I get it again? No, between the fragrance – which no matter how it smells I do not want in a facial moisturizer and that it didn’t really seem to do anything to benefit my skin, I will not be getting it again.

Will I finish the sample? After using it a couple times I just didn’t see the point so I threw it out and stayed with my normal moisturizer.

Jour Luminizing Moisture Tint sort-of-review March 3, 2012

In my most recent (February) Birchbox, one of the items I received was the Jouer luminizing moisture tint. I received the color Pearl which is the lightest of their tints. I am very pale with pink undertones and unfortunately this color is too dark and too yellow for me. Most tinted Moisturizers are fairly transparent – they do have color but it just blends with your natural color so if the tint is too dark or too light it still works – this one is a heavier cream – more similar to a bb cream. This is a smooth cream and it almost has a bit of a shimmer. It would definitely help someone achieve the dewey complexion that is pretty hot right now. I really can’t say whether it was long lasting or how my skin reacted to it because I couldn’t use that color on my face without looking like I was very ill.  I wish it had been a color that worked for me – but I’m glad that I got to try it rather than buy it thinking that the color would work for me.

Weleda Iris hydrating facial lotion Review February 20, 2012

Continuing my second 6 part series of my new Beauty Army Kit*, where I review each of my new samples and their relative value, I bring you Weleda IRIS hydrating facial lotion.

What is it? Beauty Army describes it as “Oily to combination skin gets moisture regulated into a healthy balance with this hydrating Iris Hydrating Facial Lotion. This all natural face cream is a light, fast-absorbing cream that regulates your natural moisture balance and provides long-lasting protection against drying out.”

This is a nice cream, a little goes a long way. It goes on really thin and feels light. There is no oily feel left over. This did not cause me any breakouts.  My skin is true combination. I have some areas of normal skin, some oily, and some dry. This did great with my oily areas in that it didn’t cause any more oil, but in my dry areas it didn’t seem to moisturize enough for my liking.

Here is the breakdown:

  • Full Size: 1 oz
  • Full Size Cost: $20.00
  • Sample Size: 0.17 oz
  • Sample Value $3.40

Would I get it again? Probably not – I like my Sephora moisturizer more.

“Last Chance Review” – Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Cream January 15, 2012

You may remember my first  “Last Chance Review” (Anastasia Lash Lifting Mascara)which means it is the very last time I will be using a particular product. Within the review I will explain why – there are various reasons, I didn’t like it and thus am throwing it out before I really used it much, I ran out and didn’t feel like buying another, or I used it so much that when I went to buy another I learned it was discontinued.

Today I bring you Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Cream.  I typically use the Sephora Instant Moisturizer but I received this Fresh cream as a Beauty Insider  bonus along with one of their lip balms. I LOVE their lip balms for tons of reasons and I’ll share those another time. Because I love their balms I figured their cream was a sure hit (heck it retails for $95.00 so it should be good stuff!) Fresh claims that it will help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, basically turn back the clock.

Physicians Formula Organic Wear Tinted Moisturizer – Review October 1, 2011

I’m moving this week so everything feels crunched and weird. I’m having trouble getting to things that are normally pretty easy to get to – like sharing information with you! Anyway, I’m at work now and have a few minutes of down time so I snapped a photo then continued on with finishing my makeup.

Today I bring you Physicians Formula Organic Wear Tinted Moisturizer in Fair to Light. I have trouble with their color descriptions and as such have three, and once applied I can’t see a difference between them. I’ll try to do a color comparison another day. Anyway, the one in my stash at work is the Fair to light color. This tinted moisturizer only has an SPF of 15, which makes it fine for the office and quick runs to and from my car, but I stick with my Dr. Jart+ Beauty Balm (SPF45) when I’m going to be outside for more than 30 mins straight.

This tinted Moisturizer feels really thin and has a bit of a scent – maybe a light tea-tree sort of smell, but not overwhelming or obnoxious. It goes on smooth and even, as if you are only using a light moisturizer. Some people have called it greasy, but I’m pretty sensitive to such things and this one didn’t feel that way (unless I glob it on)

Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm Review September 20, 2011

Today I bring you another of my staples. I use this product nearly daily. Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm is a “Multi-Action Skincare + makeup” which includes SPF 45 protection.  Many people have jumped on the Beauty Balm or Blemish Balm (BB cream) bandwagon. These products were popularized in various countries in Asia where the Whitening effect was among the most important aspects. Here in the US, whitening is not necessarily so important, here it is “brightening”. Anyway, this product promises to even skin tone, brighten skin, firm, hydrate, and restore skin. I can’t speak to each of those but I will tell you my experience with the product.

This product moisturizes my combination skin and helps stave off my adult acne. It makes my very fine lines disappear (they are tiny to begin with). My face feels nice and soft (I almost want to keep petting my face) when I wear it, and I feel hydrated, but that my oil is also controlled.  Over time, I do believe my complexion has improved and evened out, though I don’t have a great point of comparison. This cream gives me a medium amount of cover for any blemishes or odd tones I do have, while giving my skin a beautiful dewey radiance.

A couple weeks ago I was volunteering at the Boeing Classic golf tournament, and I had this on my face. I put regular spf 30 sunscreen on my arms and forgot to do anything with the little triangle of skin left by my polo shirt. I had to re-apply my spf 30 on my arms a couple times and still ended up pink at the end of the day.  The triangle burned bad – probably my worst burn ever, but my face – not a sunburn or sunkiss on it! I was super impressed with it.
