It is nearly August (and my August Glossy Box arrived today) so I figured I should probably share my June Glossy Box items. June’s theme was Beauty Around the World.  Each of the items are from different places on the globe.

So what wonderful items were included from each of the 5 countries?

July Glossy Box – Initial Impressions July 15, 2012

I know, I know – I haven’t reviewed June’s box yet, but I figured July’s box is more relevant because it is more current.  The big “everything at once” review like I just posted for Total Beauty Collection take a bit longer than the initial impressions posts so I’m at least giving you a sneak of what’s coming up.

So, What is coming up?

May Inaugural Glossy Box – Wrap Up July 5, 2012

I’ve had a chance to use and review all of the products from my May Box and decide on how much I liked them. So now it is time to do my box wrap up.  In case you don’t remember, here is a summary of the Awesomeness level:

Box Awesomeness Level Review (AL)

  • 5 points for an item that surpasses everything else I’ve tried and becomes my #1 choice for what role it fulfills
  • 4 points for an item that becomes added to my permanent collection of cosmetics and I will repurchase
  • 3 points for an item that joins my “I might buy this again” list
  • 2 points for an item I finished or will finish the entire sample of but in the end decided not to re-purchase
  • 1 point for an item that I tried and immediately threw out/gave away
  • 0 points if the item was a duplicate of something from a previous bag/box/kit that only scored a 1 in that box – meaning I knew enough to not even bother with trying it.
  • Don’t forget that I subtract 1/2 point for samples that can only be used 2 or fewer times.

C.O. Bigelow – Lavender and Peppermint Shampoo – Review July 4, 2012

Today I bring you the C.O. Bigelow – Lavender and Peppermint Shampoo that I received in my May GlossyBox.  Have you ever seen those “herbal” neck relaxer bean bags? This shampoo smells just like those with the lavendar and peppermint which is somewhat envigorating in the shower.

The shampoo seemed to leave my hair nice and shiny and managible.  I adored the old school look of the container but functionally it needed a squeeze or pump dispenser.

I still prefer my alterna products but this was definitely nice enough to use up.

Would I buy this again? Probably not

Will I finish the sample? I did, it was nice and lasted me most of a month.

Here’s the Breakdown:
Sample Size: 5.2 oz
Full Size: 5.2 oz
Full Size Price: $12.00
Sample Value: $12.00

Opi – Kiss Me On My Tulips July 3, 2012

Today I bring you the Opi (Kiss me on my Tulips – from the Holland collection) that I received in my May Glossy Box.

I want to start by saying I hate pink.  Yes, I am a girl, but I just never got into the color, so when I saw that I got a PINK nail polish (not pinkish orange, or pinkish yellow, or nearly red, or pinkish purple) I cringed. Then I did my dutiful blogger thing and tried it on.

Magic did occur. No, I don’t love pink all of a sudden or understand some women’s facination with the color, but I did immediately warm to this vivid color. It looked fantastic on my hands. As is typical with the OPI formula, it goes on smooth with no streaking. I could have gotten by with 1 thick coat but opted for two thinner coats. The wear lasted the typical 2 days on me (which is equivalent to about 6 for a normal person) with my standard overuse of my hands.

Will I buy this product again? Yes, Opi polishes are fabulous, and if I ran out of this one I might even buy PINK again!

Will I finish the sample? Yes – it will go into my collection immediately.

Here’s The Breakdown:

Sample Size: 0.5 oz
Full Size: 0.5 oz
Full Size Price: $8.50
Sample Value: $8.50

Kryolan High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine in Toffee

Tags: , , ,

This month has been absolutely insane.  I managed to find a new rental, pack all my belongings, remove all of that stuff from the old house, and get everything at least placed somewhere in the new house all in less than a month.  As a result, as I mentioned would happen, I did not have time to write to you all! I did, however, keep getting samples sent to me, so I have plenty to review.  Here is what you will be seeing in the next few days: A hybrid between my normal individual reviews, my first impressions and my box wrap up posts, all in one post per sample subscription.  I will wrap up the rest of May and use the aforementioned model for all of my June products  which should be reviewed in time to start my July products as I normally do – HOWEVER, if you like this new method let me know and I can switch to less frequent but bigger posts. Up to you, my friends. Thanks, as always, for reading!

Today I bring you the Kryolan High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine in Toffee that I received in my May Glossy Box. This is, I suppose, the perfect example of a glossy nude lip however for me it was too glossy and NOT a good color.

The formula itself is ok – it is super high gloss and only minimally sticky. It stayed for a good couple hours before wearing all the way off.  If you apply a thin coat it highlights every crease and crevice in your lips, but if you apply it heavily then you don’t see those lines.

I’d give this a try in a different color before I say nay to it for certain, but as it is, I just couldn’t get there and like it. This is, I believe, the first lipgloss to go in the “throw” bin.

Would I buy the product again? Unlikely, unless there is a great sale to buy it cheap in a more complimentary color.

Will I finish the sample? No, this color made me look ill *sad*

 Here’s the breakdown:
Sample Size: 0.135 oz
Full Size: 0.135 oz
Full Size Price: $18.10
Sample Value: $18.10

Cargo – Eye Bronzer June 10, 2012

Today I bring you the Cargo – Eye Bronzer from the May Glossy Box. This is a golden loose pigment that has a built in sponge applicator. The intent is to give a color that will help illuminate your eye area.

There were good things and bad things about this shadow. The color is really complimentary – at least on my skin and it stays on all day. It is also a nice shimmer and is nearly metallic – which I like.

The first negative is that the applicator is stored inside the pigment well. This means that unless you clean the applicator after every use you are getting your eye gunk/bacteria in the well just like with a liquid eyeliner or mascara – to me that is wasteful because you will have to throw it out just to stay sanitary.

The second bad thing is that it has horrible fallout.  Because it is a sponge you are dipping into a well you can’t easily control the amount of pigment you are grabbing – as a result you will probably grab more than you need so when you apply it you will end up with golden freckles on your cheek. The color and payoff is worth it – so my recomendation to you is that you put this on BEFORE you do any other makeup. That way if you make a mess you can wipe it off without ruining your hard work.

I would have prefered the pigment in a little pot so I could use a brush – but I can live with it.

Would I buy this product again? It seems they only make this color, so I have no real use to buy it again.

Will I finish the sample? I’ll keep using it till it goes bad.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: 0.035 oz
Full Size: 0.035 oz
Full Size Price: $22.00
Sample Value: $22.00

Erno Laszlo – Hollywood Collection June 5, 2012

Today I bring you the Erno Laszlo – Hollywood Collection that I received in my May Glossybox AND my May Look Bag! I am actually glad that I received both of these because the sample foils were SO small that I couldn’t have given most of the products a fair shot.  I’m going to review each of them.

In my breakdown at the bottom, I have ESTIMATED the volume based on other foils I have used. I also poured each of the foils into cosmetics containers and labeled them – you will see these throughout the post.

Lets get started!

The Erno Laszlo – Hollywood Collection consists of 5 different products for complete facial skin care – each inspired by a famous actress of the past. The descriptions are cute so I included them.

Morning Beauty Rescue – This iridecent pink serum goes on smooth and absorbs readily into the skin. The micro iridescent particles disappear into the skin as well so you don’t have to worry about looking like you just played with glitter. I did not notice any real benefit to using this particular item.

Refresh Moisture Infusion –  This light purple/blue cream feels like a standard moisturizer, it seems to be made for a general “everyone” skintype, as it did not really help with my dry spots or my oil spots on my face, but my normal areas did feel nice from using this.

Instant Eye Repair – This light green cream feels nice under the eye – I did not see any benefits beyond those of my Lift Lab, nor did my fine lines increase while using this cream.

Intensive Porcelain Veil – Not sure what to say about this one , it was slightly thicker than the other creams included thus far, but it didn’t really feel any different once it was on my skin.

Velvet Night Cream – This was by far my favorite product from the set. It left my face feeling ultra smooth and soft. Unfortunately, unlike the others in this set, a little does NOT go a long way. I only got about 2.5 nights of using this cream. It is very thick and does not spread easily, but the feeling of it is so worth it. They do sell it separate from the set of 5, but it is $175 for only 1.7 oz.  I’m not going to be able to pick that up for a LONG time.  I wish I could use it long term, it feels soooo amazing.

Would I buy this product again? For all except the velvet night cream NO, I can get nice products for far less expense. For the velvet night cream I will have to save up for it.

Will I finish the samples? Yes, they are each nice enough to continue using.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: 5x 0.03 oz – estimate
Full Size: 5x 0.5 oz
Full Size Price:  $125.00
Sample Value: $7.50

Basq – Cucumber Tea Eye Gel – Review May 19, 2012

Tags: , ,

Today bringing the Basque cucumber tea I tell that I received in my May Glossy Box. This thick green gel is supposed to reduce  under eye puffiness.    So did it work?

Yes it definitely works,  and I have used this numerous mornings this week when my eyes has been severely puffy, and within 3 to 5 min. the puffiness is greatly reduced.    This product  works really well and feels incredibly  soothing.    This is now a staple and my go to product for when my eyes need to feel a little more rested.

Will I buy this product again?    Yes, definitely, when it runs out I am absolutely going to need to get more of this.

Will I finish the sample?  Yes, without a doubt this is my favorite under eye puffiness reducing product.

Here’s the breakdown:
Sample Size: 0.5 oz
Full Size: 0.5 oz
Full Size Price: $24.00
Sample Value: $24.00

May Inaugural Glossy Box – First Impressions May 8, 2012

Today I bring you the May Glossy Box.  This inaugural box was not actually for sale, but instead was sent to some select bloggers (not me) and some contest winners (me).  I entered to win a free Glossy Box – and I won!!!! That’s the first thing I’ve won over the internet and it made me giddy. I know that it was primarily to drive hype over the upcoming subscriptions, but I’m happy anyway.  Even though I received this free, as a prize, you will still get my honest, sometimes blunt opinion. Ok so what is in the box?
