Neutrogena® Nourishing Eyeliner – Review June 12, 2012

Today I bring you the Neutrogena® Nourishing Eyeliner that I received from bzzagent.com. The PR for this liner states:

    • Built-in sharpener and smudger create your perfect look, from precise definition to smoky effect
    • Glides on smooth and wears all day; won’t smudge or fade
    • Dermatologist & ophthalmologist tested
    • 4 shades: Cosmic Black, Brushed Pewter, Spiced Chocolate, Twilight Blue
    • Retail price $7.99

I received this in the color “Cosmic Black” which you might think would be shimmery or glittery; well that’s what I think of when I hear Cosmic… but it is a normal flat matte black. Though it isn’t “waterproof” I can vouch that it doesn’t go anywhere when caught by an onslaught of tears.  What is neat is it is very forgiving, if you make a mistake at first you can use your finger to get it back into place or you can smudge everything out to give it a more smokey/blended look.  It has a built in smudging tool as well as a sharpener for the most precise tip I’ve ever seen on an crayon. You can see the smudger’s work below!

Overall I really like it and have been using it constantly over the last few weeks. I want the other colors now – and they need a purple one!

Would I buy this product again? Yes, for the price it is amazing.

Will I finish the sample? Yes!!!

Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil – Junkie – Review May 13, 2012

Whew, almost done with my April samples – and May’s boxes are coming steadily in.  Yikes!

Today I bring you the Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Junkie that I received as part of my MyGlam Bag in April.  This is a tealish green shimmer liner.  This particular color is only available in the travel set of 5 so I was super excited to get it since I otherwise would not buy the set of five and never have the chance to experience this awesome color. Now you may not think it is a very wearable color, but used in moderation it can look quite lovely.

I was slightly concerned with the shimmer falling out, but there was no fallout and it didn’t irritate my eyes at all. I can easily wear it with a neutral eye as the highlight of the look. Here you can see how that comes out.  As you can see, on the skin the color is true to the container.

The color stays on all day. Unfortunately sometimes, due to my hooded eyes, the color does transfer to my lids. It glides on without tugging. Overall it is quite nice, and I would not hesitate to buy more Urban Decay 24/7 pencils.

Would I buy this again? Yes absolutely.

Will I finish the sample? Yep! it is an awesome color.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size:  0.03 oz
Full Size:  0.04 oz
Full Size Price: $19.00
Sample Value: $14.25

Today I bring you Pencil Me In Healthy Eyeliner Pencils in Denim which is a blue eyeliner between the color of sky blue and the Microsoft Blue Screen of Death. I received this as part of my April Sindulge Box. I was super excited to receive some makeup – I like makeup and I’d seen some other’s boxes that were not really makeup oriented – though that is probably what they discussed with their consultant.

So how did this perform?

Cailyn Waterproof Cream Eyeliner and Shimmer Powder/Glitter Powder – Review April 12, 2012

Today I bring you Cailyn Waterproof Cream Eyeliner and Shimmer Powder/Glitter Powder that I received in the March Look Bag. I’ve had a hard time getting good photos, mostly because of the shimmer, so it took me awhile to get them good enough to put up here.

Lets start with the liner itself. It is a cream eyeliner (which you may remember I favor). It is a softer, thinner cream than the Tarte emphasEyes I normally use. That means you get more on the brush with less work.  The included brush is much bigger than I am used to but it still gives a precise (but thick) line. It is definitely good enough to use if you don’t have a preferred tool.  I still love my tarte brush though so I use it most of the time.  The black is a true black, there are no if’s and’s or but’s about it.  It is super easy to blend, budge, smudge, or fix for the first minute or two that you have it on, but after that it is cement. You have to break out your best eye makeup remover for this. Anyway, I really like this product, and it is totally plausable that I will re-purchase it.

On to the Shimmer Powder and Glitter Powders, these are neat, but are in a stacking set so you have to have both with you – but I think that is simply because of it being a sample. In the swatch I am using it over glitter primer – an extra sticky primer that you can get body/face glitter to stick to.  The insert I received from Cailyn stated that you can mix the cream eyeliner with the shimmer or glitter for a different look. That sounds pretty neat to me.  I think I might use the glitter as glitter sometime on my lids for a dazzling sparkle – maybe for a fun night out or something.  I tried mixing the shimmer with the liner, but it did not photograph well, I even broke out the good camera and it just didn’t let the shimmer show up in the liner – all the photos made it turn out black – or wet looking black.  If you have ever used Kat Von D autograph pencil in Black Metal Love it looks like that. I haven’t tried the glitter – I’m not sure why, I’m just not feeling it.

Overall I really like the Cailyn product line, at least from these couple samples.

Would I buy the eyeliner again? Yes, it is pretty Great

Would I buy the shimmer or glitter again? Probably the shimmer in a different color, but the glitter is probably something I’d not use enough to warrant the purchase.

Will I finish the eyeliner? I’ll use it until it dries out

Will I finish the  shimmer or glitter? I’ll keep using them – they are definitely not getting thrown away.

Eye Rock Designer Liner Review March 1, 2012

In my February Birchbox I received the Eye Rock Liner stickers. I was pretty psyched – I’d been drooling over the Dior version for awhile now. The packet comes with 4 different designs, and if you order from Birchbox you get 2 packets.  I did not try these the first few days after getting my box because I had work – and big bold winged liner is just not appropriate where I work.

If you look on the container it looks really natural, like someone just did an amazing job with liquid liner. I was really hoping for a similar result for myself.

Well, this was my trial run so I picked the design I liked the least- the one with the squared off end (though I did like them all).

So how did it go?

Not so well as I had hoped. First I had trouble with getting the sticker on straight. The next problem was that due to the shape of my lids the sticker puckered and looked really cheap.

From a little distance away the buckling was not as visible but as you can see in the closeup, it was not great. Then on top of it it was uncomfortable. Have you ever worn false eyelashes?  Have you ever totally screwed up and put on wayyyyy too much glue? That is what it felt like. Then I went to remove the sticker – OUCH Yikes.  You know how you are supposed to treat your eye area carefully so that you don’t create wrinkles? Yeh these stickers did NOT feel gentle to that area. Cute? Yes.  Gentile? NO

I think if I try another I will take a long hot shower before removing them so that maybe they would come off easier.

Would I buy them again? I don’t think so

Will I finish the sample? Maybe – Not sure yet.

stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner January 29, 2012

As part of my January Birchbox I received stila Smudge stick in Blue Ribbon. This was my absolute favorite part of the January box. This by itself was worth $20.00 making the birchbox fully worth every penny of the $10.00 I paid for it.

So what do I think of the smudge stick? I love it, I love nearly everything about it.  Lets start with my one and only complaint. The packaging. I could not get the pencil tip to extend at first, and then once I did it jumped out a lot and broke off about 1/4 inch of the pencil.  The important stuff? This smudge stick goes on incredibly smooth. There is a tiny bit of glitter in this particular color but you don’t really see it on the eye. On the eye it has a pearl like sheen.

The color (Blue Ribbon) is unbelievable. It is the perfect blue for me. It is a blue grey. It kinda reminds me of the skies in Seattle. It doesn’t detract from my actual eye color at all like many blue products do. The grey in it also makes it perfect for not looking too flashy at work.

Stila claims the smudge stick is waterproof. It made it through a full shower without movement at all. Even after patting my face dry after the shower it stayed on like a champ.

I now have a new go-to pencil style eyeliner. I am still partial to my cream/gels but this is a close second.

What is your favorite eyeliner?

“Last Chance Review” – Blinc Eyeliner January 16, 2012

In my  “Last Chance Reviews” it is the very last time I will be using a particular product. Within the review I will explain why – there are various reasons, I didn’t like it and thus am throwing it out before I really used it much, I ran out and didn’t feel like buying another, or I used it so much that when I went to buy another I learned it was discontinued.

Today I bring you Blinc eyeliner in black.  I have a subscription to BirchBox and in my December box I got Blinc Eyeliner. I was super excited because I have their mascara (soon to have a review) and their eyelash curler, both are great products! If I were to say I had a normal use eyeliner it would be my Tarte EmphasEyes but I’m always open to trying new ones. I figured this product would blow me away. It is waterproof, smudgeproof, and liquid.
