YoungBlood – Eye Impact Quick Recovery Cream – review May 5, 2012

Today I bring you the YoungBlood, Eye Impact Quick Recovery Cream that I received in my April Sindulge box. The claim for this product is: “this hydrating, illuminating eye cream instantly reduces the signs of fatigue with a combination of powerful ingredients”.

So does this thin-ish white cream support it’s manufacturers claims?

Not as well as I think it should. The cream goes on smooth without tugging and absorbs rapidly, but it doesn’t really reduce any signs of fatigue, like puffiness, dark circles, lines.  It feels good, but not great.  If you are looking for a soothing under-eye product I’d point to the SKYN Iceland Product I reviewed last month.  This is nice enough – but it has the hefty price tag associated with far more effective products.

Will I buy this again? No, it was okay but not great.

Will I finish the sample? I’ll throw it in my gym bag and use it after gym showers…so it’ll get used.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: 0.01 oz
Full Size: 0.5 oz
Full Size Price:  $58.00
Sample Value: $1.16

MAD Skincare Eye Defense Shielding Serum – Review April 4, 2012

Today I bring you the final product from my March Beauty Army Kit, the MAD Skincare Eye Defense Shielding Serum.  To start with I had a really hard time starting to test this product because of the little pump dispenser it uses didn’t want to dispense the product. After turning the dispenser upside down and leaving it that way for a couple days I was finally able to get product out. Now I understand why the product was not coming out.

This serum is a thick gel that reminds me of petroleum jelly. It has no real scent and rubs in smooth – but does not seem to be instantly absorbed or anything like that. I think it probably works well, in that I didn’t see anything change in the appearance around my eyes while I used it, but it is hard to tell because the Lift Lab cream I’ve been using has done such a good job that I can’t really see many fine lines anymore.

Would I buy this product again? Probably not – I really love my Lift Lab eye cream

Will I finish the sample? Sure – it works pretty well.

Here is the breakdown:

Sample Size: 0.13 oz
Full Size: 0.5 oz
Full Size Price:  $54.00
Sample Value: $14.04

Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Pen- Review April 3, 2012

*This post has been edited (4/9/12) and is now correct and up to date. At the bottom there is an explanation of the changes.*
Today I bring you Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Pen which I received from Beauty Bar’s Sample Society. This is a pen with eye cream inside it. It has a soft rubber like tip that can be used to pat the product into the skin if you wish.

I have the Skyn Icelandic Eye Relief Cream with Biospheric Complex in a jar already, as a purchase I made a few months ago and really liked it so I was very excited to try this pen. Apparently the two are exactly identical – though if you look on the Beauty Bar website the ingredients are listed in a different order, so this review is actually for both products (except that the jar doesn’t have an applicator). This product is a lightweight gel like cream that smooths into the skin gently and absorbs slowly but fully.

The applicator is nice, but I tend to use too heavy a hand when using the pen, but it does do a nice job of portioning out the product (and it keeps it from getting under my fingernails). I use just a tiny dot under my eyes when my eyes feel tired. It gives a slight cooling sensation which is nice and refreshing. It reduces puffiness in a short time – not a miracle reduction, but it is noticable.  I have no idea if it actually helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles in the long term, and to be honest, I don’t care. I love this product purely because of the cooling sensation. I know that it does reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles immediately after application, which is a help.

Will I buy this product again? Probably not, I have the jar, and I don’t really NEED a portable product that does the same thing. (But I will buy more of the jar if I run out)

Will I finish the sample? ABSOLUTELY. I cannot stress how refreshing this product feels to me.

Here’s the breakdown:

PEN
Sample Size: 0.14 oz
Full Size:  0.14 oz
Full Size Price: $20.00
Sample Value: $20.00
Price per oz ($142.85)

JAR
Full Size: 0.49 oz
Full Size Price: $45.00
Price per oz ($91.83)

*Skyn contacted me after I initially published this post and let me know that I had it wrong – in the previous version of this post I incorrectly believed that the jar and the pen are two different formulas, however they are the same. The Beauty Bar site has the ingredients in a different order so I got confused and lost my place reading through the ingredients. When I went to the Skyn site after they contacted me, low and behold they were identical – I went back to Beauty Bar and looked more carefully and discovered all the ingredients were the same but in different locations in the page.

VMV Hypoallergenics Re-Everything Eye Serum Review January 30, 2012

As part of my January Birchbox I received this VMV Hypoallergenics Re-Everything Eye Serum. The company claims the serum will “zap puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines.” VMV also says that there is an immediate payoff.

The cream has a thin yellow consistency. To me it feels like it sort of just sits on top of my skin and doesn’t seem to be absorbed much. I can see how that would make it appear to have an immediate payoff, the cream would sit inside the fine lines and would just appear to even out the skin in that area.

Does it work? I didn’t notice any measurable difference or any immediate relief from puffiness or circles. That doesn’t mean that it fails, it just means I didn’t see anything. I will probably continue using this until the sample is empty and rotate it out with my Lift Lab eye cream.

I’ll keep using it and report back if I see any improvements from it over the long haul.
