Happy August everyone. I’m still moving stuff out of boxes and into my house – and now the Olympics are on – so I’ve got to catch that – ya know?

I actually chose my own samples this time, and was excited to try the “surprise me” option for one of the 6 samples.  What I didn’t know was that it could duplicate a product you had already received.
Obviously from that statement I received a product I’d gotten before…

Which one was it?

May Beauty Army Kit – Wrap Up July 3, 2012

I’ve had a chance to use and review all of the products from my May kit and decide on how much I liked them. So now it is time to do my box wrap up.

In case you don’t remember, here is a summary of the Awesomeness level:

Box Awesomeness Level Review (AL)

  • 5 points for an item that surpasses everything else I’ve tried and becomes my #1 choice for what role it fulfills
  • 4 points for an item that becomes added to my permanent collection of cosmetics and I will repurchase
  • 3 points for an item that joins my “I might buy this again” list
  • 2 points for an item I finished or will finish the entire sample of but in the end decided not to re-purchase
  • 1 point for an item that I tried and immediately threw out/gave away
  • 0 points if the item was a duplicate of something from a previous bag/box/kit that only scored a 1 in that box – meaning I knew enough to not even bother with trying it.
  • Don’t forget that I subtract 1/2 point for samples that can only be used 2 or fewer times.

MAD Skincare Redness Rescue June 19, 2012

Today I bring you MAD Skincare Redness Rescue which I received in my May Beauty Army Kit. I felt ambivalent about this one. I didn’t care if it was in my kit or not.  I have what I like to call a “natural blush”. I don’t get red all over my face, but if I go without foundation, BB cream, or tinted moisturizer, then I DO NOT need to use blush. So, I figured at least I had some red spots I could try this out on!

First, MAD, please start using a dispenser that works or switch to a less fancy squeeze tube…your products are too thick to make it through that sample squirter…really! After storing this upside down for a couple days I had enough product migrate to the top that I could remove the top and pat some out. This green gel is fairly thick but spreads smoothly, with a faint earthy scent.  I figured I’d put it on a whole half of my face rather than just the cheek areas.

Bad, Bad I say. The half of my face I put it on turned all the red color of my cheeks! EEP. I ended up applying it to the whole rest of my face solely so that when I put my BB cream on I didn’t look like Dr. Jeckyl/Mr. Hyde with one side one color and the other side a different color.

I’m not sure why it didn’t work for me…their other stuff has been nice enough – nothing amazing, but nice enough! Have you had better luck with this?

Would I buy this again? Certainly not.

Will I finish the sample? Nope

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: 0.13 oz
Full Size: 1 oz
Full Size Price:  $32.00

Cover FX ClearPrep June 18, 2012

Today I bring you the Cover FX ClearPrep primer that I received in my May Beauty Army Kit.  As I mentioned I only got one of the items I would have chosen had I not let the system choose for me….this was NOT that one, this was actually one of the ones I definitely didn’t want.

Last time I had a Cover FX item I did not find it to perform worth a darn on my skin.  I don’t usually need primer because of the BB cream I use, it really does do everything. I have used the smashbox photofinish primer below my BB cream a few times and it has worked nicely, so I figured I could give the Cover FX one a shot the same way.

Melting.  My face litterally felt like my makeup was melting and running off my face.  I don’t have a photo of it because it just didn’t show up well, but whatever ingredient in it and in my BB cream did NOT play well. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t hot or burning, but the two combined and turned to a super liquidy thing.

Would I buy it again? No, it doesn’t work with my current suite of makeup.

Will I finish the sample? No I already fed it to my pet garbage can.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: 0.24 oz
Full Size: 1.0 oz
Full Size Price:  $39.00
Sample Value: $9.36

Karuna Anti-Blemish Treatment Mask June 14, 2012

Today I bring you the Karuna Anti-Blemish Treatment Mask that I received in my May Beauty Army Kit (incidentally I ALSO received it as my mystery gift in my June kit – more on that in my June Beauty Army post). Anyway, as I’ve mentioned before I had not ever tried any sort of mask before last year and now I’m addicted. This is the first actual mask (like where you put something in the shape of a face on) that I’ve had the chance to try.  I’ve seen these masks around on Hautelook before and have always been curious about them.

I’m not sure what I was expecting but this was not it… I guess I was thinking that it would be less gooey.  This was gooey – almost gross gooey! So what you do is you take the mask out of the foil.  There is a fabric like mask with a plastic like covering on one side. You are supposed to put the fabric side against your face and then peel off the plastic. and make sure the mask is smooth over your face and that your eyes and mouth are not covered. Then you sit back, relax and wait for a quarter of an hour.

Unlike the non fabric masks I’ve used, this one did not seem to change how it felt after time was up, it still felt as moist and gooey as when I first put it on.  The mask was cool and refreshing, like slathering aloe on your face.

When I took it off my face was still very full of the liquid infused in the product. In the instructions it said to rub it into your face.

The next day my skin had fewer blemishes and felt quite amazing. I’d say this mask was pretty great.

Would I buy it again? If I felt like splurging sometime, yes!

Will I finish the sample? It was a one time use sample – so no.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: 1 Mask
Full Size: 4 Masks
Full Size Price:  $28.00
Sample Value: $7.00

Fragrance Reviews June 13, 2012

Today I bring you Philosophy’s “love sweet love”, Aquolina’s “Pink Sugar”, and Bond No.9’s “Signature” scents that I received in my May MyGlam Bag, Beauty Army Kit, and Beauty Bar kit.  Since I never find that there is a whole lot to say about fragrances other than what it smells like and if I like it and I received 3 samples last month, I’d just get them all reviewed in one go. Lets Get Started.

Philosophy – love sweet love – this is a light gentle scent. It is apparently one of the newest in the Philosophy lineup.  To me it reminds me off berries and baby powder. It is light enough to wear on a warm day.  It smells nice on me and I don’t mind it at all. I will be keeping the sample and using it occasionally, but I will not be buying it again – I just don’t like it enough to buy a full size.

Bond No.9 – Signature – This is one of the most expensive scents I’ve tried. I will digress and tell you that the containers that each of the Bond No.9 fragrances come in are cute and unique – I love them and would want to collect them all!  This perfume is actually classified as a perfume rather than an “eau de…” which simply means the oils are less diluted. Here is an article on the different categories: What is the meaning and difference…. At first it is quite strong and makes me think of spices. It is not very floral despite the rose inclusion.  I feel like this is a unisex scent and could go just as well on a man as on a woman. I like it but don’t love it. As it wears on my skin it starts to smell more gentle but it never quite hits “sweet”.  I’ll wear it on occasion I suppose.

Aquolina – Pink Sugar – Sugar is right; think Cotton Candy. This is sweet, super sweet.  It reminds me of cotton candy and maybe strawberry funnel cake. While I like those things I don’t really want them on my skin. I’m going to say this is a toss out.  It might be fun for a tween, but it is not mature enough for a 30 year old.

Here’s the Breakdown:

Philosophy Love Sweet Love Spray
Sample Size:  0.05 oz
Full Size:  2.0 oz
Full Size Price: $42.00
Sample Value: $1.05

Bond No. 9 New York Bon Bon – Signature
Sample Size:  0.05 oz
Full Size:   3.3 oz
Full Size Price: $330.00
Sample Value: $5.00

Aquolina Pink Sugar Eau De Toillette

Control Corrective Firming Tri-Peptide Serum – Review June 8, 2012

Today I bring you the Control Corrective Firming Tri-Peptide Serum that I received in my May Beauty Army Kit. This thin milky serum is intended to minimize the look of fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture, and help renew skin elasticity.

I tried this sample for about a week and I just couldn’t get there; it may be because I don’t have a lot of fine lines and wrinkles – partly due to my age and partly due to my consistent skincare routines. It felt nice, and was absorbed quickly. It did not cause any breakouts or any other adverse side effects.

Would I buy this product again? No – it was just not my favorite ever product

Will I finish the sample? Sure – it wasn’t that big so it won’t take long to finish it.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: 0.1 oz
Full Size: 1.0 oz
Full Size Price: $64.00
Sample Value:  $6.40
