May Inaugural Total Beauty Collection – Wrap Up July 11, 2012

I’ve had a chance to use and review all of the products from April and decide on how much I liked them. So now it is time to do my bag wrap up.

In case you don’t remember, here is a summary of the Awesomeness level:

Box Awesomeness Level Review (AL)

  • 5 points for an item that surpasses everything else I’ve tried and becomes my #1 choice for what role it fulfills
  • 4 points for an item that becomes added to my permanent collection of cosmetics and I will repurchase
  • 3 points for an item that joins my “I might buy this again” list
  • 2 points for an item I finished or will finish the entire sample of but in the end decided not to re-purchase
  • 1 point for an item that I tried and immediately threw out/gave away
  • 0 points if the item was a duplicate of something from a previous bag/box/kit that only scored a 1 in that box – meaning I knew enough to not even bother with trying it.
  • Don’t forget that I subtract 1/2 point for samples that can only be used 2 or fewer times.

Happy 4th of July July 4, 2012

I know it is almost the 5th, but that’s how long it takes for it to get dark enough to do fireworks.  These are all ones from my neighbors as seen in my driveway (not all at once though).

Karuna Anti-Blemish Treatment Mask June 14, 2012

Today I bring you the Karuna Anti-Blemish Treatment Mask that I received in my May Beauty Army Kit (incidentally I ALSO received it as my mystery gift in my June kit – more on that in my June Beauty Army post). Anyway, as I’ve mentioned before I had not ever tried any sort of mask before last year and now I’m addicted. This is the first actual mask (like where you put something in the shape of a face on) that I’ve had the chance to try.  I’ve seen these masks around on Hautelook before and have always been curious about them.

I’m not sure what I was expecting but this was not it… I guess I was thinking that it would be less gooey.  This was gooey – almost gross gooey! So what you do is you take the mask out of the foil.  There is a fabric like mask with a plastic like covering on one side. You are supposed to put the fabric side against your face and then peel off the plastic. and make sure the mask is smooth over your face and that your eyes and mouth are not covered. Then you sit back, relax and wait for a quarter of an hour.

Unlike the non fabric masks I’ve used, this one did not seem to change how it felt after time was up, it still felt as moist and gooey as when I first put it on.  The mask was cool and refreshing, like slathering aloe on your face.

When I took it off my face was still very full of the liquid infused in the product. In the instructions it said to rub it into your face.

The next day my skin had fewer blemishes and felt quite amazing. I’d say this mask was pretty great.

Would I buy it again? If I felt like splurging sometime, yes!

Will I finish the sample? It was a one time use sample – so no.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: 1 Mask
Full Size: 4 Masks
Full Size Price:  $28.00
Sample Value: $7.00

hi and apologies June 2, 2012

Hi, my posts will probably be pretty sporadic over the next two months, my neighbor lied to my landlord about me and my husband and so now we are getting kicked out of our rented home.  I’m still going to try to make posts since these are my reprieve from life, but I will have less time since we have to pack everything in the next 29 days and find a new home.  Thanks for your continued readership and I will try to keep posting at least a couple times a week! Hugs 🙂 ~sarah

On a side note if anyone is renting their home in puget sound and it has either a 3 car garage or an over sized 2 car garage drop me a line – 🙂 trying to keep my spirits up. Thank you all for being awesome.

Pevonia: $15 Gift Card May 23, 2012

Today I bring you the Pevonia $15.00 Gift Card from the May Total Beauty Collection. Some people were not too thrilled with this being part of the box, but I figured I’d find some use for it.  I scoured the Pevonia site looking for items under $15.00. Most of the site is skincare and there is not much for less than $30.00.  They do have some candles and lots of soap bars for under $15.00.

I eventually got to the spa page and there I found Tea.  You may remember how I’m a bit of a tea snob, but when I saw these I had a good feeling about them.  They had four different blends, Energize (black tea), Rejuvenate (green tea), Renew (herbal), and Slenderize (red). I decided to pick the Slenderize, both because I like the idea behind slenderizing teas and because I love rooibos (red) tea.  The teas sell for 17.00 each, and everything at Pevonia is free shipping.  After tax I ended up paying just a little over $3.00.  I also got to pick a free sample on top of the fact that every order receives samples of Age-Defying Marine Collagen Cream and Hydrating Cleanser. The package arrived a quick 4 days later.

I was excited to find that not only did I get the tea, the three samples, but they threw in two more samples, Easy Glide Shaving Emulsion and Anti-Stress Bath and Shower Gel.

So, how did I like the product that I actually ordered?

The tea was delicious. Not only was it refreshing, but it also had excellent flavor. I’m not sure why, but I always find tea more interesting when it is a different color than a normal black or green.   This tea is a whole leaf tea where the ingredients have not been mashed into tiny bits.  Not only does this allow the tea know to taste better, but it also is healthier for you.  When tea is mashed into tiny pieces, it often loses some of the health benefits due to the ingredients being broken down.   As you can see in the pictures, this tea has normal size chunks of dried fruits, berries, and rooibos tea.

Overall, am quite impressed with my Pevonia purchase–especially for paying just $3.  Should I find the need to, I will definitely repurchase from the store in the future.  I look forward to trying each of the samples from their skincare line in the near future.

I am actually glad that this gift card was included in the total beauty collection.  It’s really ended up being worthwhile for me at least.

Have you found any products that you have enjoyed using this gift card?

May Inaugural Total Beauty Collection – Initial Impressions May 15, 2012

Oh my goodness I have been getting a lot of my subscriptions over the last week – must catch up – must start reviewing! Yikes.

Yet another site has jumped on the sample bandwagon. This month was Total Beauty Collection’s inaugural set. Total Beauty Collection is a curated set of 4-6 deluxe beauty samples each month for $15.00/month.  I got the email and I bit. I really am having a good time with all these sample companies and trying all the different products – many of which I never knew existed.

Total Beauty has taken a different approach on its packaging. The parcel is neither bag nor sturdy box…it is what is known as a “pillow box” (yes I had to google it) and it has a cut out flap in which reside the samples.

What was in the box this first month, you ask?

Murad – Hybrids Acne Primer – Review May 14, 2012

Today I bring you Murad’s Hybrids Acne Primer that I received in my April Beauty Bar Sample Society box. This medium thickness cream is tinted.  It is intended to help treat acne while providing a shine free base for additional makeup.

What do I think? Not so much. It is not for me at all. Lets start with the obvious, the color – it is very yellow. I am not. The next problem is that once it dries it gets cakey, which is not good for people with fine lines, heck for anyone who has a face that moves it is not good.

As far as if it helps with acne, I really can’t say. I can say that it does live up to the claim that it prevents shine.

Will I buy this again? No, it doesn’t do anything helpful for me

Will I finish the sample? No, it really didn’t work for me.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size:   0.17 oz
Full Size: 1 oz
Full Size Price: $35.00
Sample Value: $5.95

I have a long list of blogs I like to read and one of those is Rebecca likes Nails.  She does some really amazing nail art and she also has an enormous nailpolish collection.  When I visited her site today, she had posted a tutorial on making nail polish jewelry.  Since I don’t have time for a post of my own today, here is a link to her awesome tutorial.  I bought supplies tonight too.

Maybelline Volume Express One by One Review February 8, 2012

I was cleaning up my hard drive and found a set of photos I didn’t ever post. You guessed it, another mascara.  Unfortunately the photos are not the best, I apologize in advance.

This is the Maybelline Volume Express One by One. The container is almost identical (except in color) to the Falsies.

The color is supposed to be “blackest black” but it really is more of a grey. The closeup of the brush is not the correct coloring, the photo of the brush with the container is the correct coloring.

The brush itself is a plastic elongated football shape. The bristles are plastic and sturdy. The claim by Maybelline is that it declumps and coats all at once. The sturdy bristles seem to make sense for accomplishing this goal.

The formula is pretty thick and does not spread easily.

If you haven’t gotten the gist that this is not my favorite mascara you will understand better why after the break.
