June Jacobs: Green Tea and Cucumber Body Balm July 10, 2012

Today I bring you the June Jacobs Green Tea and Cucumber Body Balm that I received in my May Total Beauty Collection. This medium-thick white cream has a very light scent. I suppose it does smell like green tea and cucumber, but it is soooo mild that I just can’t put my finger on it.  My husband likes the smell though.

The cream is somewhat moisturizing – it is not intensive but it does give lots of moisture. For me, I couldn’t use it in the winter because I get far too dry, but it is just perfect for spring and fall, with something lighter yet needed for summer.

I like it a lot and if the June Jacobs line wasn’t so expensive I’d get it again.

Would I buy this product again? No, even though I really liked it, it is too expensive for a body balm.

Will I finish the sample? I did, and enjoyed every dallop of it.

Here’s the breakdown:

June Jacobs: Green Tea and Cucumber Body Balm
Sample Size:   1.6 oz
Full Size: 7.0 oz

StriVectin SD Intensive Concentrate for Stretch Marks Wrinkles July 8, 2012

Today I bring you the StriVectin Concentrate for Stretch marks and Wrinkles that I received in my May Beauty Bar Sample Society Box.  It is medium-thick cream that is supposed to help reverse the visibility of stretch marks in 2 to 8 weeks.

I have some of these evil lines so I figured I’d pick one small area and apply the cream generously to that one area – that way I’d have enough for at least a few weeks to see if it actually worked.

There is no such thing as magic when it comes to beauty routines, but this comes darn close; after about a month my stretch marks had reduced a bunch, not gone but certainly not as obvious as the untreated areas. At $135 per bottle, though, it is not something I will hurry out and purchase – the marks just don’t bother me enough and aren’t in places you’d see unless we were at the beach.

Would I buy the product again? Yes, if I had spare money and was planning a warm weather vacation and had lost the weight I want to lose then I would probably get it.

Will I finish the sample? Absolutely.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size:   0.75 oz
Full Size: 5.0 oz
Full Size Price: $135.00
Sample Value: $20.25

MAD Skincare Redness Rescue June 19, 2012

Today I bring you MAD Skincare Redness Rescue which I received in my May Beauty Army Kit. I felt ambivalent about this one. I didn’t care if it was in my kit or not.  I have what I like to call a “natural blush”. I don’t get red all over my face, but if I go without foundation, BB cream, or tinted moisturizer, then I DO NOT need to use blush. So, I figured at least I had some red spots I could try this out on!

First, MAD, please start using a dispenser that works or switch to a less fancy squeeze tube…your products are too thick to make it through that sample squirter…really! After storing this upside down for a couple days I had enough product migrate to the top that I could remove the top and pat some out. This green gel is fairly thick but spreads smoothly, with a faint earthy scent.  I figured I’d put it on a whole half of my face rather than just the cheek areas.

Bad, Bad I say. The half of my face I put it on turned all the red color of my cheeks! EEP. I ended up applying it to the whole rest of my face solely so that when I put my BB cream on I didn’t look like Dr. Jeckyl/Mr. Hyde with one side one color and the other side a different color.

I’m not sure why it didn’t work for me…their other stuff has been nice enough – nothing amazing, but nice enough! Have you had better luck with this?

Would I buy this again? Certainly not.

Will I finish the sample? Nope

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: 0.13 oz
Full Size: 1 oz
Full Size Price:  $32.00
Sample Value: $4.16

Kiehls – Abyssine Cream + Review June 15, 2012

Today I bring you Kiehls Abyssine Cream + from my May Birchbox. This thick cream is intended to help slow down cellular aging in your skin. But unfortunately it didn’t really work for me. I loved the velvety texture of the cream and how it was thick and absorbed nicely in my skin. Here’s the “BUT”; it made me break out big time.  I know that often creams take awhile for your skin to get used to, and that you need to use them for awhile to stop the breakouts.  I don’t usually need the trial period, but I gave it a week, I even used spot treatments on the pimples that surfaced, but the breakout just continued to get worse. It was the worst breakout I have had in 10 years, and that was after a week using the cream. I stopped using it and within three days my face stopped having pimples on it.

I suspect that if you had older skin and hadn’t had pimples in a long time that it might work for you, but for me, no, not so much.

Will I buy this again? No

Will I finish the sample? No, I prefer my face without pimples.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size 0.25 oz
Full Size 1.69 oz
Full Size Price $48.00
Sample Value $7.10

Bambola Beauty Açaí Anti-Oxidant Cleansing Cream June 9, 2012

Today I bring you the Bambola Beauty Açaí Anti-Oxidant Cleansing Cream that I received in my Look Bag in May.  This is a brand I have never heard of before – the premise of the company is that they provide natural skin care with high quality ingredients. This particular cleanser has specific ingredients that target different objectives:

Lemon Juice Extract – Tones, uplifts and oxygenates
Mandarin Oil Refines texture of skin, has antiseptic and cell rejuvenation properties
Sunflower Seed Oil – Rich in Vitamin A & E
Vitamin C from Acai – Stimulates collagen synthesis and fights environmental damage

What did I think? It felt nice, but it is made up of oils, and you probably remember I don’t like oil based cleansers. I still felt like my skin was left with a slick feeling after rinsing the cleanser off. I just can’t get past that feeling.  It smells nice, not overwhelming, like lemons and berries, but once rinsed off, there is no remaining scent. I think it did clean my skin – and thats good.

Would I buy this product again? No, I prefer some of the other cleansers I have used.

Will I finish the sample? No, it just didn’t strike me as that wonderful.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: estimated – 0.25 oz
Full Size:  6.0 oz
Full Size Price:  $30.40
Sample Value: $1.26

Control Corrective Firming Tri-Peptide Serum – Review June 8, 2012

Today I bring you the Control Corrective Firming Tri-Peptide Serum that I received in my May Beauty Army Kit. This thin milky serum is intended to minimize the look of fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture, and help renew skin elasticity.

I tried this sample for about a week and I just couldn’t get there; it may be because I don’t have a lot of fine lines and wrinkles – partly due to my age and partly due to my consistent skincare routines. It felt nice, and was absorbed quickly. It did not cause any breakouts or any other adverse side effects.

Would I buy this product again? No – it was just not my favorite ever product

Will I finish the sample? Sure – it wasn’t that big so it won’t take long to finish it.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: 0.1 oz
Full Size: 1.0 oz
Full Size Price: $64.00
Sample Value:  $6.40

Erno Laszlo – Hollywood Collection June 5, 2012

Today I bring you the Erno Laszlo – Hollywood Collection that I received in my May Glossybox AND my May Look Bag! I am actually glad that I received both of these because the sample foils were SO small that I couldn’t have given most of the products a fair shot.  I’m going to review each of them.

In my breakdown at the bottom, I have ESTIMATED the volume based on other foils I have used. I also poured each of the foils into cosmetics containers and labeled them – you will see these throughout the post.

Lets get started!

The Erno Laszlo – Hollywood Collection consists of 5 different products for complete facial skin care – each inspired by a famous actress of the past. The descriptions are cute so I included them.

Morning Beauty Rescue – This iridecent pink serum goes on smooth and absorbs readily into the skin. The micro iridescent particles disappear into the skin as well so you don’t have to worry about looking like you just played with glitter. I did not notice any real benefit to using this particular item.

Refresh Moisture Infusion –  This light purple/blue cream feels like a standard moisturizer, it seems to be made for a general “everyone” skintype, as it did not really help with my dry spots or my oil spots on my face, but my normal areas did feel nice from using this.

Instant Eye Repair – This light green cream feels nice under the eye – I did not see any benefits beyond those of my Lift Lab, nor did my fine lines increase while using this cream.

Intensive Porcelain Veil – Not sure what to say about this one , it was slightly thicker than the other creams included thus far, but it didn’t really feel any different once it was on my skin.

Velvet Night Cream – This was by far my favorite product from the set. It left my face feeling ultra smooth and soft. Unfortunately, unlike the others in this set, a little does NOT go a long way. I only got about 2.5 nights of using this cream. It is very thick and does not spread easily, but the feeling of it is so worth it. They do sell it separate from the set of 5, but it is $175 for only 1.7 oz.  I’m not going to be able to pick that up for a LONG time.  I wish I could use it long term, it feels soooo amazing.

Would I buy this product again? For all except the velvet night cream NO, I can get nice products for far less expense. For the velvet night cream I will have to save up for it.

Will I finish the samples? Yes, they are each nice enough to continue using.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size: 5x 0.03 oz – estimate
Full Size: 5x 0.5 oz
Full Size Price:  $125.00
Sample Value: $7.50
