A little over a week ago I received my birchbox. I wasn’t incredibly excited about it, which is why I went through the Beauty Army and MyGlam items first. But I’m not going to let you down and skip reviewing the stuff that I got.

This month people got some pretty sweet swag. Possible inclusions that I would have loved in this month’s box were:

Beauty Blender

Exude Lipstick

Eye Rock Designer Liner

ColoreScience Bronzer

Violent Lip Tattoo

Zoya Feel nailpolish

So what did I get?

NYX Roll on Shimmer Review

Another part of the February MyGlam bag was this NYX Roll on Shimmer which, according to the container can be used on Eyes, Face, and Body. I received the color Onyx, which is a dark grey almost black. I’m not sure how this would be a good color for other parts of the face or body, but as an eyeshadow it is pretty great.

This pigment is inside of a tube and is applied with a roller ball. I have found it works best after being shaken. NYX knew what they were talking about when they included the word Shimmer in the name of the product. This really shines. It is super sparkly but it is not big obvious pieces of glitter – it is tons of tiny bits of glitter so it looks like an overall shine rather than a teenager’s glitter. If you don’t like Urban Decay’s amount of shimmer then you will not like this either.

I have found that without primer it disappears quickly, but with primer it stays on for most of my shift (~12 hours) with only minimal creasing.

The swatch even shows how shiny this product is.

There is some initial fallout so either have something ready to do quick cleanup or use a piece of tissue under your eye when you apply this.

Would I buy it again? Yes – for an inexpensive product it is really nice and I enjoy how fun it is.

Will I finish the sample? I’ll keep using it for as long as the product remains good.

Urban Decay Book of Shadows Book of Shadows IV (shadows) Review February 28, 2012

I was on Hautelook last month and they had Urban Decay as one of their features. I’ve been wanting the Book of Shadows for awhile – some of the colors looked amazing – and seeing it on Hautelook for only $29.00 I knew I had to grab it.  I am glad I did. I am also glad that I didn’t spend all $56 of the original price for this palette (not that it isn’t worth it, but I got it for almost half price).

This palette is large – we are talking book sized – so there is no question in my mind why it is called the Book of Shadows.  Some people have reviewed it and said it was gimmicky.  Ok so yeh, I don’t need a mini speaker to use makeup – but there are 16 0.03 oz shadows (full size shadows are 0.05 oz and run for $17.00 each).  Most of the shadows are the typical Urban Decay formulas that are very highly pigmented and smooth and luxurious. Two of them Gunmetal and Gravity are not as pigmented as I am used to from Urban Decay.

Bare Minerals Flawless Definition Mascara Review February 27, 2012

A while back I got a bare minerals sample pack from Sephora and inside was one of my favorite things – a MASCARA! Yay.  So, I get it out to try it after I throw some other mascaras out.  This one is the Bare Minerals Flawless Definition mascara.

Bare Minerals claims “you’ll enjoy every lash. The tapered wand lengthens, darkens and lifts, separating each individual lash for precision definition.”

So does it hold up to its reputation?

Premier Concentrated Facial Serum with Vitamins E and C by Dead Sea Premier Review February 26, 2012

Today I will be reviewing Premier Concentrated Facial Serum with Vitamins E and C by Dead Sea Premier from my February MyGlam bag.

In the February bag everyone got two products from Dead Sea, one of which was the Cinderella mask, and this was the other one I received.  Dead Sea claims that it works by “First, lifts the skin and keeps it taut. Second, it tightens skin upon application. Third, it lavishes the skin with vital nourishment of concentrated Vitamin C and E to improve its texture and diminish fine lines. It has extraordinary water retention capabilities. So as it lifts it helps saturate skin with replenishing moisture. It helps correct overall skin texture and appearance.

The serum is a medium viscosity clear gel – it is a little thinner than corn syrup. I was able to get two full applications out of the little packet. It was OK, not great but for the $28.00 from Amazon or $149 from Dead Sea. I, again, will stick with my Sephora moisturizer.

Will I get it again? No, it just didn’t live up to what it claimed to be.

Will I finish the sample? Yes, I already did, this was a tiny sample so I didn’t have a chance to use it more than twice.

Sample Value:  0.07 oz with the full size product sold as 1.7 oz on Amazon for $28.00. The value of this sample is $1.15 or $6.13 based off the Dead Sea price.

Premier Instant Stretching and Revitalizing Mask (aka Cinderella Mask) from Dead Sea Premier Review February 25, 2012

Today I bring you the Premier Instant Stretching and Revitalizing Mask (aka Cinderella Mask) from Dead Sea Premier. This was one of the products featured in February’s MyGlam bag. We were each given 2 Dead Sea samples, and this was the one that everyone got.  Another mask! I went from never having used a mask 1 year ago, to now having tried at least 8 different masks (and owning 3 full size ones).  I’ve really grown to love and appreciate masks and their awesome properties, so I figured – what the hey, I’ll try it.

This mask is touted for being pretty awesome – or at least Dead Sea believes it is pretty awesome with its $110.00 price tag on the full size of this item (or you can get it on Amazon for $20.00).  I personally am challenged when faced with an idea like this – how can it be worth $110 but the same product is sold for 20? Something just doesn’t mesh.  But hey, I’ll try it.

The consistency seemed like a thick tinted moisturizer or a bb cream. It felt kinda like Fango Brillante which I will review another time.

The directions said to leave it on for about 10 minutes. I did that, by the end of the 10 minutes it started firm up.  Now Dead Sea claims that wearing the mask will “result in a “lifting” effect and with fresh and younger looking skin. This mask stimulates and activates the metabolism of the skin tissue and, in return, it reduces evidence of wrinkles. This mask does miracles and that’s why it is also named Cinderella Mask.”

Freeman Feeling Beautiful Goji Berry Hydrating Mask Review February 24, 2012

One of the items I received from my third MyGlam was the Freeman Feeling Goji Berry Hydrating Mask. In my post about the February MyGlam bag I mentioned that I would review it later. Well, here we are 1 day later and I’ve used it!

How did I like it?  As you remember I tried the Cucumber Peel off Mask and really liked it. I’ve used it a few times since then and I still like it. As a result I was quite excited to try another of the Freeman masks.

This one was not a peel off mask like the last one. It felt the same when I applied it – cool and soothing and thick. There wasn’t anything interesting to show you about when it was on my face – so I don’t have a photo of that.  The Sachet contains enough for two masks.

The mask was to be left on for about 10 minutes. It did not get hard or dry out during this time. I had a little trouble removing it from my face because it was so thick. My face did feel moisturized but not much better than after any of my other facial treatments.

Would I get it again? Probably not; I really liked the cucumber peel off better.

Bad enough to throw out? No, I will use the sample until I run out of it.

These samples run for $1.99 on the freeman beauty site.

MyFace Cosmetics Blingtone Eyeshadow in “Bellbottom Blues” Review February 23, 2012

This is the conclusion of my second 6 part series of my new Beauty Army Kit* where I review each of my new samples and their relative value.

Today I’m going to share my opinion of the MyFace Cosmetics Blingtone Eyeshadow in Bellbottom Blues. I picked this as one of my 6 samples (out of my nine options) from the new Beauty Sample Kit, Beauty Army. Since I had gotten one in the last kit SP”ICE”Y I basically knew what I was in for but I was still excited – even though this was a color I didn’t expect to be able to use very much.

Lets start with the packaging. it was a clear plastic case. The packaging is not all that amazing, but it is good enough for its purpose. Now lets compare similar priced product’s packaging, Urban decay has the cute Subway Token, Too Faced has the cute flowers, The Balm has cute tins, and Lancome has the slider tops, this product’s packaging is ok, but not up to those standards.

What about the important part, the product?

ELF from Hautelook – it was worth a try February 22, 2012

So, I’ve been reading tons of stuff lately on how ELF has really gotten their act together. I needed a new multi-purpose kit to just leave in the drawer at work, and Hautelook had ELF on sale. I picked up the e.l.f. Studio 83 Piece Essential Makeup Collectionand the e.l.f. 24K 6-Piece Shimmer Eyeliner Collection

I first tried ELF about 6 years ago 2005 shortly after their website allowed people to order from it. I was not yet very into makeup but $1.00/product? That sounded great, well too good to be true – and it was. I was thouroughly disappointed with every single product. Again this was all before I even learned what quality makeup was – this was just in comparison to drugstore stuff.  Well here it is 6+ years later and with everything I’ve seen lately I thought it was time to give them a second shot.

Here is what I got!

What did I think? Read on!

I have a long list of blogs I like to read and one of those is Rebecca likes Nails.  She does some really amazing nail art and she also has an enormous nailpolish collection.  When I visited her site today, she had posted a tutorial on making nail polish jewelry.  Since I don’t have time for a post of my own today, here is a link to her awesome tutorial.  I bought supplies tonight too.
