“On the Eighth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Eight Maids a-milking” Hmmm, what are the eight maids milking? I haven’t gotten any cows, just lots of birds.

Something else we haven’t got is snow – at least here in Seattle. It’s been a fairly warm winter so far (*knock on wood), but though I love snow I do not love driving to work in snow. So instead I decided to re-create snow on my fingers! This is Sally Hansen’s All Wined Up with Cosmetics Arts Fairy Dust white glitter. I put on 1 coat (that’s all it takes to be opaque) of the All Wined up and then once it was dry I put a super light coat of the Fairy Dust on starting half way up the nail, then half way up that I put a medium coat of more Fairy Dust. Then finally I put a nice thick bit closer to the tip – it gives a similar effect to sponge painting I’ve seen some bloggers do – but this was much quicker with less cleanup. As usual the nails are covered with my standard Seche Vite

What is your favorite thing to do in the snow?

12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 7 – Christmas Lights December 18, 2011

“On the Seventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Seven Swans a-swimming” Okay, enough with the birds. Oh, hey, did you know that swans can fly up to 60 miles an hour? Thats speedy.

Know what else is speedy? The speed of light of course.  Well, though my nails are not covered with light itself, they are covered with freehand christmas lights! I love driving around at christmas looking at christmas lights and my nails remind me of this tradition.  The base is a white Zoya and the rest are random colors from my collection. As usual the nails are covered with my standard Seche Vite

One more thing – Its my birthday  – Yay! I feel old 😦

What is your favorite tradition during this season?

12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 6 – Holly December 17, 2011

“On the Sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Six Geese a-laying.” Just when I thought these Christmas gifts were getting good I learn that I get 6 MORE birds – and not just regular birds but birds that are currently laying eggs for NEW birds.

Tired of birds like me? Well nothing says Christmas like Holly, and Zoya brings you a lovely sparkly green with that name.  It looks great alone or when paired with a lovely red sweater. Trust me, this color is not just for the holidays – but it is indeed perfect anyway.  Holly is covered with my standard Seche Vite

What is your favorite color for Christmas?

12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 5 – Good tidings we bling December 16, 2011

“On the Fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Five Golden Rings.” Phew – finally something pretty to wear- one for each finger on one hand! I hope they are real gold though!

If that Bling isn’t enough for you – I know what is – Iin fact it is in the title of this Sephora by Opi polish “Good Tidings We Bling”. This is a glitter polish that has different sized hexagional red and green glitters suspended in a clear base.  It goes opaque in about six coats – so instead I put 3 coats over Sally’s All Wined up just so I didn’t have soooo much polish on my fingers.

The photo came out horrible, I know. I tried many times, but I just could not pick up all the glittery goodness – sorry! I promise it is way better in real life.

What is your favorite holiday bling?

12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 4 – Kristi AND Holly December 15, 2011

“On the Fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…four calling birds.” Ok I get that they like birds – but we are up to 10 birds – that is a lot of bird droppings to clean up!

Something easier to clean up is nail polish 🙂 My buddy Mr. Acetone works great for that.

I know guys love women getting it on with each other – and well, so do I, at least when it is Kristi and Holly!  That’s right the two Zoya’s look fabulous together. Kristi’s creamy red with Holly’s sparkely vibrant green makes quite the duo, and with using the new “half moon” style it is a really contemporary style that makes me think of those round glass orniments.

I applied Holly just over yesterday’s Kristi using the handy dandy 3 hole punch re-inforcers.

This is much more vibrant than yesterday’s but it is still really nice and not too out there.

What colors do you like to put in a half moon design together?

“On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me…three french hens.” Seriously? The person who is the gift recipient must have an aviary or something…Me? I just own way too many nail polishes…

So today I bring you Zoya Kristi. To me this is the perfect RED. It’s not cool toned, it’s not warm toned – it’s just Red.  It is a cream that could probably be opaque in just one coat – but I’m light handed with my coats so I needed a second.  Kristi also was a little chilly so I covered her with some more Seche Vite – if you need to figure out what to get me for Christmas, another bottle of Seche Vite would rock!

So this is a totally normal look – but it’s still really pretty and given all the other Christmassy  things around, the red feels Christmassy too.

Are there any non-holiday things you have that you think translate great into holiday wear?

“On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Two turtle doves.” Well again with the birds, but at least these are prettier.

Lets spice up Shawn instead – like I mentioned yesterday I’d do some looks that have a simple change up to make them fresh looking. For Shawn I added some Wet ‘n Wild red glitter. I got the polish in a holiday set from Rite Aid so it doesn’t have a name, but any old red glitter in clear base polish would work. Again I covered it all up with some more Seche Vite.

Cute right? Its a little glitzy but not too much.

Now here is a special treat – it’s my house all gussied up for the holidays (just like my nails!)

“On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…A partirdge in a pear tree.” Hmmm, not sure what a partridge would do for me, its just a bird – I mean its sorta cute in a way – it looks like a pheasant. I do know what I would do with Zoya Shawn though!

I’d paint my nails for my first day of Christmas!!!

Here he is – in all his glory – risking making my husband upset since I’m wearing another man!

I added a coat of seche vite on top. Keep in mind I am awfully hard on my nails – so when I say this lasted a full day with no chipping or edge wear that is an amazing feat – it should last nearly a week on a normal person.

I thought this color would be festive and yet still subdued.

Most of my nails for this season will show the same polish two days in a row – the first day one way and then altered the next day to extend wear or add a simple change-up (like you will see tomorrow).

It was a great kickoff to the holiday season.

What did you do to kick off the holiday season?

Baby it’s cold outside! December 10, 2011

“I really cant stay…baby it’s cold outside…I’ve got to go away… Baby it’s cold outside…this evening has been so very nice”. Today I went to the Leavenworth Christmas tree lighting celebration and what do I do? Forget to bring a hat and gloves…. So much for my no-buy. Anyway, I thought I’d be ok since my coat has a hood…wrong. Luckily there is a store called “the hat store” so I went in and bought myself a great winter hat! I think it is really cute and it’s also practical since it covers my head, ears, and neck. No, it’s not real fur, but it’s super warm. I consider it an emergency with a fashionable ending.

Have you ever found yourself in a predicament where you desperately needed something only to find yourself a fashionable solution?

No-Buy December 6, 2011

I am officially on a self imposed no-buy until february – and that is for everything – makeup, household gadgets, electronics, movies…

Have you ever been on a no-buy?  I realized, just before the wedding that my spending was out of control – I had TONS of expenses that were unnecessary, just items that are fun or nice to have. Here I am, trying to save up and buy a house, but I have no savings because I keep spending it. *Sigh*

The good news is that I still have TONS of makeup I haven’t reviewed yet, I have two subscriptions to sample boxes (birchbox and myglam) and I should continue getting items from Influenster.com to share with you.

Coming up this month I will have 12 days of Christmas nails and at least 2 more mascara reviews in addition to my very tardy review of the original Naked Palette.

Speaking of Christmas, I will say Christmas and not Holiday or Winter because I do celebrate Christmas, and while you may or may not I do have the right to my beliefs and you have the right to yours. I’m sick of all the PC stuff about not saying Christmas just because some people don’t celebrate it. ok – I could rant about this for hours but I won’t – thats as political as I will ever let this blog be.

If you havent already checked them out, please check out my photos of my wedding and vacation. If you check out my wedding photos you will see my super awesome makeup that Shanelle at Pacific Artistry taught me to do.  If you are in the seattle-metro area and want to learn to  apply makeup like a pro or just want help creating a special look just contact her and she will help you out*.

I’ll write again soon! enjoy the egg nog!
