Influenster Holiday Vox Box – imPRESS Press-on Manicure by Broadway Nails – Space Cadet December 27, 2011

Influenster sent me some cute press on nails from Broadway nails.  They are imPress Press-on Manicure. They come in 3 dozen colors/styles from a simple french manicure all the way to a fancy water marbled look.  I was sent Space Cadet which looks sort of like a crackle coat with sparkly highlights.  They are cute – but not my first choice from the 36 offerings (but still better than the animal print which I just don’t do).

Lets start with the packaging, the nails are all contained in a little box that looks just like a polish bottle.  You twist off the top just like you would for a nail polish, but then you squeeze the sides to open the clear plastic part.  though the front holder shows only a few sizes there are TONS of different sizes so you are almost guaranteed to find ones to fit your hands.

The nails are fairly thick which makes them sturdy, but fairly heavy.  I’m also not used to my nails being this long so it is taking some adjusting to.

The application (once you’ve picked the appropriate sizes) is really simple, first you clean all your nails with the provided wipes then you just pull the clear plastic tab to remove the covering from the sticky back side and press them on your nail.  After the first 7 were on I started having an issue pulling the tabs off so I quickly learned that using a tweezer to remove the tabs worked wonderfully.

Earlier today I went to Starbucks. While I was there I got a couple compliments. One of the girls thought they were my real natural nails AND she loved the pattern.  I think that is a pretty cool compliment to the manufacturers.

As most of my readers know, nail polish rarely lasts me more than 24 hours.  How do these press-ons compare?  I’ve had them on now about 48 hours. They are still on and not peeling off my nail like polish does.   I did however experience chipping of the actual pattern. I’m not sure if this is normal but it did sort of ruin the whole perfect looking nail thing.

As you can see the chipping is probably on 10% of the whole pattern, which doesn’t seem like it should happen.  Owell – still this is better than the whole coat of polish peeling off.

Overall verdict?  I’d sure be open to trying them again (actually I might be able to make a full set from my leftovers too) but I’d like to see the polish last more than a day and a half.

I still challenge you to find me nails that will last me more than 2 days and still look fresh!

UPDATE: 12/29: I woke up this morning with two nails having committed suicide in my sheets.  I took the remaining 8 nails off – which was easy and straightforward.  As I’ve said previously, I am really really hard on my nails, so this surpassed my expectations.

Influenster Holiday Vox Box – NYC New York Color – Nude York City 582 December 26, 2011

Hopefully you all had a Merry Christmas. I got some really nice swag. I had my family over and one of the husband’s friends joined us for awhile. It was just a really nice day.  Speaking of Christmas, guess what I wore ALL day?  My New York Color Liquid lip shine.  It went perfectly with my sexy smoky green eyes that I did to go with my green sweater. I had to reapply every couple hours – which is typical of a gloss for me, but I never felt chapped or sticky.  Overall it is probably in my top 10 favorite glosses overall (considering both color and formula)

Here is a brief video review of the NYC Liquid lip shine that I just received on the 24th from Influenster.

Mistletoe Memories – submission to a contest December 25, 2011

This is an entry to a contest on http://www.influenster.comfor Mentos Pure Fresh gum.  I received Mentos gum as a promotional item from Influenster in exchange for my reviews which you can see on my main page.  If you want to try the Mentos gum check them out on www.mentos.com

It was a blustery winter day as I drove my CR-Z down the icy hill. I slid in the corners and tried to keep it on the road. I was in quite a hurry, after all my new husband was on his way home to me. I hadn’t seen Jared since a week after the honeymoon. It had been a lonely month while he was on an international assignment, but the end was near – his flight was on final approach right as I drove. What kind of wife would I be if I was late to pick him up from the airport?

Why does this 3 mile trip down this hill take so long? Why does the road have to be so icy? In the spare moments I have while driving down the hill I go through a mental checklist of things I’ve done today. Shower – check, hair – check, makeup – check, unplug flat iron – check, brew coffee to bring to husband – check, clothes/shoes – check, brush teeth – crap!!!!!! I’m at the very bottom of the hill. It took 10 minutes to get down the hill due to all the switchback turns and icy conditions. Going up it will be at least as slow – and I don’t have 20 more minutes to spare – I have to get to my husband.

I’ve got to think about this. Is it the end of the world that I just got out of bed an hour ago and have dragon breath? How could I forget something so basic – will he really care?  I keep driving toward the airport – 20 more minutes until I’m there, 20 minutes until I see my husband for the first time in a month.

I’m about 5 minutes from the airport now – still having issues figuring out what to do about my stinky breath and I haven’t gotten a call that Jared’s off the airplane yet.  I’ll pull into the cell phone waiting area until I get a call that he’s ready.

In my rush to get out the door when I left home I nearly tripped over a cute little box left at my front door – I’d been waiting for it since the beginning of December, but it didn’t arrive until this morning, the day before Christmas, the day I’d see my husband again.  Instead of unlocking the house again, I grabbed the box and put it in the passenger seat so I didn’t waste any time. Since I had time now at the cell phone waiting lot I decided I might as well crack the box open and see what my friends at influenster.com had sent me. Lots of neat stuff, some soap, a face mask, lip gloss- better try that-mmmm moist, press on nails, lash primer, a Larabar, and ooooh what is this below the packing peanuts? Mentos Gum.

I remember Mentos from the commercials decades ago – they were so hip and trendy.  I didn’t realize they made a gum now, but I am in desperate need of fresher breath, so I’m quite happy for this fortunate turn of events.  I pop one in and start to chew, an explosion of mint spreads throughout my mouth and the crunchy shell seems to actually pull off a little of the plaque I had accumulated overnight.  Sweet!  I do a quick breath check as Jared calls and tells me he sees his luggage on the carousel.

I get my car in gear, chew my gum, and head to arrivals.  There are so many people walking around, and cars  pulling in everywhere, but as soon as I see him, the chaos dissipates in my mind, just like the stinky breath did with the Mentos. Quickly, I pull in to a vacant space and pop the hatch. I run out the door of my car into the warm arms of my husband who I have so desperately missed.  A kiss, as epic as the V-J nurse sailor kiss in 1945, happens. Do I pull away in fear of my breath? NO. I take his embrace and match it with my own happiness to see him.   We are together again, we are happy, thanks to both our love for each other and my lucky Mentos gum.

12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 12 – Frosty Christmas Lights December 23, 2011

“On the Twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Twelve Drummers Drumming” My husband already plays drums, I really don’t need more drumming in the house, but I suppose if its like “Bring in da noise, bring in da funk” it’d be ok.

Today’s nails look like the drum shattered the ice.  I painted each of my nails the color of one of the lights on my christmas decorations.  After they were each dry I coated them with some Seche Vite.  Then I added a coat of Sally Hansen’s white crackle coat.  The interesting thing here is that I used Kleencolor red holo for the red nails and it seems to have seeped through the Seche Vite and then even more it seeped into the crackle coat. It made the white look pink. None of the rest of the colors bled into the coat.  Here they are!

And now I have a very special treat for you.  I’ve been in contact with a very special organization (http://www.adoptapolish.org/) which helps lonely polishes find new homes.  Their adoption process for the first group of polishes ends on New Years Eve (December 31st).  These polishes come from all different backgrounds and have a different story to tell. You can see their pictures and read their stories. If one sounds like it will be a good fit for you then you can write up an adoption application and maybe if the polish chooses your application  then it will go home to you.  See more details below the break.  I’ve put in my application, have you?

*I have received nothing in exchange for this promotion of the program – I just think it is super neat and hope you will enjoy it as much as I do!

12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 11 – Stamps (not for the mail) December 22, 2011

Before I get on with my post I want to say hi to all of you! I have gotten quite a few new followers over the last two weeks and I want to say hi. I’m so glad you are finding my posts interesting enough that you want to read more!  I’m always open to comments, so if there is something you’d like to see or a product you’d like me to review, just let me know 🙂

“On the Eleventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Eleven Pipers Piping” I like music – I wonder what type of music they are playing? Perhaps “The Twelve days of Christmas”

I’ve got some super fun nails today – though they have nothing to do with pipers piping.  I used my stamps from the Born Pretty store and there were some super cute christmas stamps!  I have Christmas trees, snowmen, candy canes, Christmas bells, and rudolph the red nosed reindeer.  Check ’em out.

What is your favorite Christmas or winter symbol?
