At my work they have a little convenience store where you can drop off laundry, buy snacks and small gifts, and rent movies.  As I was buying a nail clipper to get rid of my broken nail – really trying not to bite them – I saw these neat fat looking tubes and of course I had to look. They were called Chubby Chap. They had 7 flavors: Buttercream Vanilla, Huckleberry, Mango, Oatmeal Cookie, Peach Daiquiri, Pomegranate and Strawberry Banana.

Physicians Formula Organic 2-in-1 Bronzer & Blush Review September 24, 2011

Awhile back I picked up Physicians Formula Organic 2-in-1 Bronzer & Blush in “Light Bronzer / Pink Rose”.  I’ve mentioned my “at work stash” and this is part of the stash. I use it often.

Should I start with pro’s or con’s? Should I start with the packaging or the product?

Lets do the good stuff first. The Bronzer is an awesome formula that is really smooth and not chalky. It comes out of the palette evenly and applies to the face the same way. It is a very nice camel color and I use it for contouring on my cheeks.

The Blush is a nice rosy color that gives me a very natural flushed look. I use it mostly on the apples of my cheeks.

Also, when they are blended together they are a nice warm sun kissed look.

Onto the not-so-good good. The packaging is atrocious! It is this paper covered cardboard thing. As you can see after some use it ends up looking quite dingy. It looks like I’ve never washed my hands before using it (and believe me, I do wash my hands frequently).  So on the top side are the colors and below is a mirror and a brush. Both have a clear plastic window. The window gets really grubby looking – especially on the brush side. The mirror isn’t really usable since it is exactly opposite the colors, and again if you use the brush it gets horribly distorted. The brush is poor to mediocre but I used it for awhile before realizing how great a good brush feels.

Now the negatives about the two colors…The blush ends up being a little granular after a number of uses. It feels like there are tiny pebbles inside it. If you look at the close up you will see them. The colors are also not very pigmented at all. It takes a lot of product to get any color pay-off.

All I’ve got on is mascara, eyebrow powder, and tinted moisturizer and the blush and bronzer. It gives you a good idea of what it does on a completely clean palette.

It is good enough for me to not feel the need to go buy something to replace it, but I won’t buy this one again.

What’s your favorite Physician’s Formula product?

Today I just bring you something pretty. I call it “Oil Slick Nails” I started with a CND base coat of Tough then three thin coats of Borghese polish in B365 Euro Green which is a gorgeous dark olive color. I then topped it with two coats of Kleancolor 236 Chunky Holo Black and a coat of Seche Vite. Even on my nubbs of nails it is so pretty I just want to stare at my hands all day!

Its really hard to show all the facets of this color so there are TONS of photos if you click MORE.

JĀSÖN Hand Soap September 22, 2011

Another item from Influenster was this JĀSÖN Naturals Soothing Aloe Vera Hand Soap.  I figured it wouldn’t be very interesting to take photos so I decided to make a video with my very favorite song which was created by my tax dollars. (That is a different rant for a different time) anyway, this soap is made of Aloe Vera  (do you sense a theme with these influenster items? Lots of Aloe – you’d think that was all that was needed to make something “natural”)

This soap has nearly no smell – but the slight odor is very light and plesant. It doesn’t really smell like anything – it just smells clean. I like it a lot.  Just the other day I spotted the full product line at Nature’s Market here in Kent, WA. I was quite excited. When this one runs low I will definitely pick up a new one. I think next time I’ll try the lavender. I like things with a light lavender fragrance.

This soap is very soothing and leaves my hands feeling soft and clean.

I would recommend this to anyone who wants to switch to a different soap than they typically use.

Lancôme free gift with purchase review of “Pinks” palette September 21, 2011

As I discussed in my previous post, I took advantage of Macy’s “Free gift with Lancôme purchase” last month and got a load of awesome samples. Today I’ll share the “Pinks” palette.

This palette has four different colors, three of which are available in Lancôme’s
color design singles line*.  The four colors are (top left to bottom right) Designer*, Pink Pearls*,  Lava and Exhibition*.  The color design singles are each 0.042 oz, and in this palette each is 0.03 oz for a total of 0.12 oz – so these get pretty close to full size products.  As with all of the Lancôme products I’ve tried before, each of these is smooth and nicely pigmented.

I find it amusing that “Pink Pearls” is actually the only matte color in the entire set – you’d think that something with the pearl name would have a sheen. Anyway, that one is the color of cotton candy. Exhibition sounds like such a gaudy name but it is actually just a nice dusty rose shadow with a light sheen. Designer is supposedly a metallic green, but it just seems like a standard shimmer to me.  Finally, Lava is a dark pinkish brown that is a shimmer. This is my least favorite color in the set, but I still like it.

The Natural Dentist Rinse September 20, 2011

The Natural Dentist Rinse is probably my least favorite item from my Influenster August Naturals Vox Box. This is a mouth wash made of Aloe Vera. I am used to mouth washes tasting icky, but this?

I saw this and really wanted to like it – it seemed like such a great idea – washing your mouth with Aloe. So, I shook it up as instructed, poured out my adult dose, swished it around, spit, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed – the taste never went away – brushed – the taste was still there – ate something. Okay, next time I was ready to try it again knowing that the taste was pretty bad. I shook it up after verifying the cap was on tight, took my dose and still decided it was not a good flavor to me. Then I looked at my uncapped bottle which had apparently, during removal of my cap, allowed a lot of the product to seep onto my counter – sticky icky. So they get an F- for packaging, and a D for flavor, but the one thing that it did pretty well was leave my teeth feeling super smooth. I’d be open to trying it again if it were reformulated.
If you are willing to deal with the horrible flavor to enjoy smooth feeling teeth than try it! If not, go get a sonic crest tooth brush which will leave your teeth feeling smooth – and you can use any darn toothpaste flavor you like.

Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm Review

Today I bring you another of my staples. I use this product nearly daily. Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm is a “Multi-Action Skincare + makeup” which includes SPF 45 protection.  Many people have jumped on the Beauty Balm or Blemish Balm (BB cream) bandwagon. These products were popularized in various countries in Asia where the Whitening effect was among the most important aspects. Here in the US, whitening is not necessarily so important, here it is “brightening”. Anyway, this product promises to even skin tone, brighten skin, firm, hydrate, and restore skin. I can’t speak to each of those but I will tell you my experience with the product.

This product moisturizes my combination skin and helps stave off my adult acne. It makes my very fine lines disappear (they are tiny to begin with). My face feels nice and soft (I almost want to keep petting my face) when I wear it, and I feel hydrated, but that my oil is also controlled.  Over time, I do believe my complexion has improved and evened out, though I don’t have a great point of comparison. This cream gives me a medium amount of cover for any blemishes or odd tones I do have, while giving my skin a beautiful dewey radiance.

A couple weeks ago I was volunteering at the Boeing Classic golf tournament, and I had this on my face. I put regular spf 30 sunscreen on my arms and forgot to do anything with the little triangle of skin left by my polo shirt. I had to re-apply my spf 30 on my arms a couple times and still ended up pink at the end of the day.  The triangle burned bad – probably my worst burn ever, but my face – not a sunburn or sunkiss on it! I was super impressed with it.

Avalon Organics Nourishing Cherry Aloe Lip Balm Review September 19, 2011

Next up from Influenster is the Avalon Organics Nourishing Cherry Aloe Lip Balm. Unfortunately there isn’t much to see outside the product photos I’ve taken. While it is nourishing and conditioning – there is nothing you can really see with my camera/lighting as far as swatches or anything.

This balm is a clear gloss similar to a Burts Bees. Do you remember those Luden’s cherry cough drops that tasted like candy? That is exactly what this smells like. I love the scent and the flavor. It feels good on my lips, is not sticky, and lasts for a good couple hours.

It seems to retail for between $2.00 and $5.00 at grocery and drugstores. I will definitely keep an eye open for these and pick them up in the future. They are just as good as my beloved Burts Bees and a nice change.

Tarte Mascara – Lights, Camera, Splashes! – Review September 18, 2011

Today we’ll be looking at Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Splashes! mascara. Since I never use up my mascaras before they need to be discarded I ordered Sephora’s Give Me Some Lash set which gave me 6 mascaras and a primer. I recently opened this one up and have been using it occasionally.
